I had the opposite I arrived on schedule & I knew ahead of time if I'm late it's a $1,000/hour. I get there and the crane was not scheduled for that day. I'll take the $1,000 for having to offload & wait at another yard.

When I worked in the Oilfield it was 20K a day for the crane and rig crew. This was a few years ago so can see that being a legit price. And most likely they had to pay premium price for someone to break schedule to get in as fast as can.

You're not paying the customer, you're paying the crane company who showed up but the right stuff didn't. The crane guys charge by the hour and the cost is the same whether they're working or drinking coffee waiting for the right material to show up. You wouldn't be out of line wanting to see the invoice from the crane company but you're either going to pay or no longer work with that broker.

I'm not being rude... I'm really not.

Try go buying a crane (which is really expensive), put insurance on it (which is REALLY expensive) & hire you a crane operator (which is really expensive) & you'll see why it cost $15K to rent a decent crane for a few hours.

    Cranes are expensive.

If you charge back to the driver who caused problems he’ll quit.
You may have to pay to keep your loads with the broker.

And every crane operator has an oiler, the dude that walks around when he moves the crane.
    Everything costs.

tell that to a company I used to work for.
they’d withhold their $2500 insurance deductible if you screwed up.
most would then quit and they’d hold your check.

    Vampire and stuckinthemud Thank this.
