    There's a difference between "accepted way of things" and "legal".

    And they’ve got two guys who hooks the cables.
    The master hooker, who motions the crane operator, and the one who hooks the cables.

    So, what happens, if you miss crane appointment due to truck breakdown and are able to communicate this to the broker/ customer?
    Is the carrier still on the hook for crane fees, or can be claimed on cargo insurance?
    Has anyone been in similar situation before?

    To the OP, what would’ve you done if the broker mentioned that they would be back charges because your driver brought the wrong load ? Seriously…….. someone has to absorb the costs. Crane hires don’t work for free. The broker dispatched you unless they gave you a wrong trailer number. I hauled a lot of different types of cranes pieces, they gives time appointments, luckily I myself haven’t missed one yet. Yet, I’ve been to jobsites where the crane was way late and I was paid standby time. It works both ways, unfortunately, the crane company and crew are extremely more expensive. My answer to your issue is, it falls on you. Hopefully you can negotiate a lower price.

    I pulled a few Skateboards, early 2000 decade, to job sites where they had Stationary Cranes.
    One site there were 2 of us Skaters from same company.
    Requirement was EXIT CAB and get away from Truck B4 Unloading.
    Glad It wasn't raining.
    Most FUN of such Jobsites were Getting Units IN-N-OUT without a Burger.

    Best deal ever on a crane got 4 sections of a 3000 amp 480V switchboard picked up from the parking lot dropped straight down in front of the electrical room door.

    Cost = $0

    Had bought coffees during the project just being me for people and just getting the job done.

    Took maybe 30 minutes.
