    answering your question above...

I can only speak from my company’s experience but I find that new vehicles from manufacture or rail to dealerships pays the least amount.

Maybe other companies get better pay for these but when my trucks move these, the pay usually is not very great.

Having said that, it’s much quick to load these loads because they’re all in one place. You must account for that because you’re not spending much time driving around picking up single units. This allows you to pickup and deliver much quicker, allowing you to get to your next load.

Maybe it evens out in the end... not sure; I’ve never done the math on it since manufacture and rail work is only a small portion of our revenue..

This settlement was all new vehicles that were our contract freight with the exception of one rental car transfer load and one broker load to reposition my rig. I work no where near 70 hours a week. The broker load and rental car transfer explains why the fuel surcharge was low this settlement, as it was included in the rate and not listed separately. I am more into short loads that get me home most nights and occasionally stay out a couple nights a week rather than running the road and long loads. I have heard you can make more running spot freight but I like consistency and going to the same places week after week. I make a very good living doing what I do and have the support structure of a large carrier for tire, fuel and hotel purchase discounts. As I have mentioned prior, not everyone has the same revenue. There are no guarantees in life, but you generally get what you deserve and set your mind to do with the experience level you have. Fuel, insurance, $250 bi-weekly optional escrow and hotels have been taken out of this settlement for the net. I am certain some people surpass my income and some people will never achieve it, but I am only concerned with my income. B8297FD2-49E3-4B77-B43E-9F6281962DBA.png

Sir - would you mind explaining how the insurance works for an independent contractor leased on to a big company like H&A?

Your truck must be listed under H&A’s insurance liability policy, not your own policy... is that correct?

Do owner operators/independent contractors have to pay the yearly renewal down payments or does H&A take care of that?

Are you paying for the liability AND cargo premiums? Or just the cargo?

Thanks for educating me on how this works with the big companies.

I’m just a small fleet trying to get to the next level so I’m always interested in learning how to biggest, most successful companies do things...

I pay cargo and what most would call Bobtail. Does not really apply in carhaul, but basically if I drive unladen to repair shop or something else. I choose to use the same insurance company they do to make things easier. They pay the premium and take it out of my bi weekly settlement.

80-85% plus 100% of the fuel surcharge is fairly standard.

I am happy with my 85% and 100% of fuel, but I realize other compensation plans may work as well. It is really about what is left over and how much you had to work to get it.

Definitely is great when someone breaks down real numbers. When you say spot rates are you referring to brokered loads like on central dispatch etc?
