Is there such a thing as a good "Driver Recruiter Firm?"

Recruiters make money convincing you to work at their company. It's your job to know what question you need answered and then to ask them in a way that doesn't give tell the recruiter which answer you want to hear. I would suggest you make the company you want to know about put you in contact with several of their drivers and then ask them to describe what they do, what they earn, where they drive, what are the customers like, etc. If yo ask ANY recruiter for ANY company "is this a good place to work?": what do you suppose the answer will be? "Don't ask a barber if you need a hair cut."

Most trucking companies are good for some drivers and not good for other drivers, like shoes. It's important that ou know what you need before you walk into the shoe store and ask "do you have any good shoes?" Work boots aren't good for athletics, athletic shoes that are too big or too small are not good for lumberjacks. You need to know your needs for money, home time, freight type, region of the country, etc. You also need to decide which of those you can sacrifice some to have more of one of the other needs. A few companies are pretty bad for most people, and a few companies are pretty good for most people, no company is good for each newbie in each town wanting to do everything.

 

No, there aren't. All of them are paid by companies for the leads, period. They aren't going to discriminate against the megas, even the bad ones, as the megas are their greatest source of income. Imagine if 80% of your revenue came from Swift, CRE, PAM, WE, Roehl, Schneider, JBH, and TMC... would you say "eff off" and not take their money?

Just research here... Take the name of companies you run across that seem interesting, check their SAFER and SMS, then search the forums here for their name. If they aren't listed here, ask here. Someone will have heard of them.

Or, better yet, post in the "Seeking Employment" sub-forum (Under "Trucking Jobs"). Put in your location, experience, qualifications, and what you are looking for. Generally there are small companies looking in there from time to time to see if a driver fits their system.
