Omg. I don’t know why this is my 3rd time trying. But I will say this I went to college and parked the rig and went to school, got back in and did it again. Over and over again. Now it wasn’t SNHU, I actually had to attend classes. That was all fine. I got my degree and it didn’t mean squat. It is what it is. But I will tell all something there is nothing better than rolling down an interstate or a 2 lane highway and watching the Sun come up and thinking to yourself this is my office view. When it’s in your blood it’s there forever. Nothing beats the open road and that smell of diesel . I wish you all the best FJ

One of the requirements for pretty much every law enforcement agency i know of whether it's state, federal, etc, is x amount of college experience, x amount of experience in similar fields, or x amount of time in the military; i pretty much have 1 year as a CO, but not very many places recognize correctional officer experience, especially since youre dealing with a bunch of deekheads and you dont have to be very subtle and delicate as you would with the general public who hasnt been convicted of a crime, so needless to say i get that part; as far me going to college being my chosen route, it's not the only one i couldve done; there were plenty of places i couldve gone as a CO to get the experience, but i persoanlly think for some of the niche areas i might be interested in working in, such as a detective, a college education couldnt hurt; besides, some inmates make me sick and i had about enough of that

Fuel has come down some but here's an example..
Diesel was $6-$7 a gallon retail in some places..

Lets not count anything but fuel. No insurance, tags, ifta, ucr, 2290, permits, oil, grease, tires, repairs, maintenance, tolls, loadboard fees, truck & trailer payments, cellphone, internet, fuel card, parking, logbooks, driver pay, company profit, equipment replacement, etc, etc, etc.. Sure I'm forgetting alot, it's late but you get the idea...

So retail $6 per gallon fuel divided by my average of 6.61 mpg = 90 cents per mile fuel cost alone..

Even with a fuel surcharge of 70 cent per mile on top of the base $1.04 per mile I'm am not profitable. I don't even have a truck or trailer payment. I'm parked at those rates..

 

That why you finance a new truck that get 9-10 mpg. DUH, DEBIT is the answer.

What exactly is the difference between a company/contract driver & lease purchase?

One doesnt pay all the expenses for the company the other does... the pay ends up the same....

 

Bayou Boy. Dry Van doesn't mean no touch. Drivers doing dollar general delivery. Have to unload at each stop. I think, but could be wrong, that @MACK E-6 un/loads at his stops.

Essentially like a lease car. You lease it for 1 or 2 years. Only real difference is at the end you can either swap it out for a new one or flip it into a l/p. The contractor lease is a walk away no penalty lease, too.

 

I -think- they have you home every weekend. That will certainly help with the school work.
