I need to change my CDL A license to CA asap and I really cannot wait until I study and feel ready for all 5 of written tests.
Anyone knows if I can get a permit or anything temporary even a none CDL just by providing my identification docs and proof of residence?
I know that I can call DMV tomorrow morning but I somehow rather to know the answer now.
    Thnx

Updating my own post for others use:

If you are moving to California, plan ahead that you have to sit for "all of written tests" you already passed to get your license in another state.

It includes regular license, motorcycle license, CDL and all endorsements. Transferring/Adding Hazmat endorsement requires hands on training according new law in CA.

Even if you had a California license sometime in the past but changed it to a new state, and now moving back to California, you need to sit for every single one of those tests AGAIN.

    Attention:
If you fail any of those tests for 3rd time, your application is over, need to pay full payment again, fill forms online like day one and start over.
This is a structured annoyance against citizens. Think twice if you are California license holder and want to move to another state but not 110% sure that you will return back to California. (You have to go through same nightmare if you return one day)

I was born in the Bay Area.
I used to live in Ramona, pretty close to Poway.
    And I'll never miss CA.

No hoops to jump through when I moved to MN.

CA is lame in most respects.
I think they should be expelled from the Union.

Lived in multiple states and finally realized that south CA and south FL are the only ones I am happy. Didn't have anyone in south FL so south CA was my only option.

Cali and Texas could become their own autonomous nations. Might happen in 25- 30 years.

I asked the same thing about NY a few months ago. Answer I got is NO.

I think Texas could make a good go of it.

    CA? Not so much.

Why bother changing it to another state ?

i lived all over and I always kept my same CDL in the first state because it was such a hassle to change it .

I moved to CA and didn't find the right job.
Do not have car yet either so my only option so far is renting a car from Uber and drive for them and they require in-state ID.
That way I'll have a temporary job n car til I find the right CDL position.
Also large companies which are my only option as a zero experience driver, don't want to mess up with laws and want in-state ID according your residence state.
I rather to take care of it earlier than later.
It was #### waste of time n money but today passed the last written exam (including regular car and motorcycle).

Just my thoughts, but why on earth as a truck driver would you want to have a CDL in California, the most restricted track hating state in the entire country? I would do anything and everything I could to avoid that state. If you live there, honestly it probably be easier to get a legal address somewhere else. And keep your CDL in Nevada. No way I would choose California
