I know what it means.. I just think the term itself is kinda dumb..... if your truck has a tiller, does that mean that your steer tires are in the back...<sorry>.... stern?

When I drove dump truck in my youth, I drove a Mack with 5.xx, 5.56 maybe, rears. I could start out loaded in 5th gear. I'm lucky if I can start out in 2nd on a grade with 3.55's. is it super important? No, but it's good info to knowBlue jeans Thanks this.

Yes, just remember the D is for daytime and the N is for nighttime
Blue jeans, Geekonthestreet, Lohse and 1 other person Thank this. -
may be a dumb term, but it's one that most likely will stick around for many more years.
i ain't about to change it, neither are you.
so it's a term we just have to live withBlue jeans Thanks this. -
Yes, but once you get it moving, it doesn’t really affect the shifting. I drove an old GMC with v8 Detroit and probably the same rears.....that turd could climb a wall, but it topped out at 60, with a 13speed single over. You really had to wind that no torque having Detroit up to get any work out of it, and the straight pipes made that fuel/ noise conversion really loud.Blue jeans Thanks this.

I have said it myself, but only sarcastically, with my thumbs behind my imaginary belt buckle.Blue jeans and Another Canadian driver Thank this.

To match your tiller I recommend engine #1 or #2.

hmmm
you might want to reconsider this statement- I will put my skills up against your skills any day, any place and any time…..and this truck is both an automatic and a manual.
Top picture is 265’ long 15’ 6” tall and 16’ wide
bottom picture is 175’ long 13’ 11” wide and 14’ 6” tall weighs in at 197k -
That truck is a 300k CAD new, by the way.
Probably the best in the OD industry today.Last edited: Aug 6, 2022

I really laugh when I see people say that wiggling a stick and pressing your foot up and down. Makes you a better trucker.
From the couple of super Truckers that have posted on how long they take to do a pretrip. I know I do a better job than them.
But wait. I prefer to drive an automatic. Guess what. I can drive a manual car, too. But prefer to drive an automatic.
Simply put. There's no difference between the quality of either drive preference. One doesn't make you better than the other.
I learned everything I could before going out on my own and sure as heck ain't lazy. Seen trucks with manuals. That looked like they should be oos. It's the quality of the person. Not whether they like to play with the knob at the end of a stick.Blue jeans, striker, dunchues and 2 others Thank this.
