It's not that automatics are for those idiots, it's that they allow those idiots to drive. Don't get me wrong, I hate what has happened in trucking, too. But those idiots were fubaring things long before autos became prevalent.
My new truck has an Ultrashift, and I love it. In the mountains, the only difference between it and a manual is I push a button for a different gear instead of moving a stick. The only other time I override it is slowing for a stop, I'll force downshifts sooner for more Jake.
Automatic transmission

then perhaps, you should refrain from making uninformed remarks and concentrate on anything else you might have a factual basis in….or maybe just remain silent. Just a thought…..Blue jeans, surf_avenue, Another Canadian driver and 3 others Thank this.

Can you get your engine up to 2200 RPMs on the foot pedal ? Most engine are limited to 1800 RPMs on the foot pedal so it's not easy to get them to 2200 or 2300. That's were the automatic is better. Just set engine brake to stage 3 let the transmission to it.
When I drove manual I would never let the RPMs go that high plus the engine was limited to 1800. The way I was trained if your running engine at RPM limit by the computer, you can't pull the trailer without shifting gears. So we never run downhill that high of RPMs because in snow and ice you might need to pull the trailer downhill to avoid a jackknife. The automatic DT-12 transmission won't go to high RPMs unless you turn on stage 3 and someone would not use Jake brake in snow and ice.Last edited: Aug 8, 2022

Nice, profanity and a personal attack. That’s a solid comeback. And about what I expect from manager as stated on your profile page, attitude like yours from management is the reason this industry is in the state it is . GoodbyeLast edited: Aug 8, 2022

uhhh...i DROVE automatics, or better yet, "automated shifting" transmissions. reason(s) why? it's what a couple of companies that i worked for, had coming in, or at another job, what they had.
THEY SUCK
i'll always prefer a stick in a big rig anyday.
i still say "brain dead" those so called drivers that cannot read an Atlas, (and depend 1000% on a stupid GPS) make a phone call, to the customer or the dispatch, follow directions, do a proper pre/post trip, have any knowledge of a truck's components, you know, "steering wheel holders"
K...???????Last edited: Aug 8, 2022
