Howdy,
Retired school teacher here. 58.7 yrs. old with two herniated discs, sleep apnea and bad hips. 5'10, 260 lbs. Feeling great. No back pain and hips feel fairly good. I excercise and lift weights regularly, but still have a weakness for Pizza and Potato chips. Low blood pressure (My Cardiologist recently cut my Lisinipril dosage in half) and passed my recent DOT physical. As for sleep apnea, only very recently have i begun to use my CPAP machine and I'm making progress, considering the machine's been sitting it's box for 2.5 years unused.
Swift seemingly hired me and I attended my first Zoom class for permit training only yesterday. I did well and passed my 3 sections of homework with scores of 83%, 100% on section two and 96% on section 3.
This morning, just minutes prior to the start of my second day of Zoom class, my recruiter phones me and tells me that Swift has rejected my job application, wouldn't give a reason, sorry for the inconvenience and goodbye.
Can any of you veteran truck industry people give me some insight as to why Swift suddenly dropped me? As an aside I phoned Prime (I'd applied with them 6 weeks earlier) and informed them I'm now available and what had happened with Swift this morning. The Prime recruiter informed me that in view of my application being rejected by Swift, I should only call her after I have my CDL and at least 6 months experience and goodbye. I'd like to become a truck driver and am scratching my head here. I can't help but wonder if my age was the unstated reason for my application being rejected after starting Zoom permit classes. I welcome all informed comments. Thanks!

Your health issues probably had more to do with it……your a workers comp case just waiting. (Nothing personal)
Bret1984, LoneRanger, austinmike and 13 others Thank this. -
Lonesome, BennysPennys, Another Canadian driver and 3 others Thank this.

Well Larry it's not your driving record. Catch my drift. You would more than likely be a good driver with time. Keep banging on those doors. Good luck.
aussiejosh, Opus, BennysPennys and 3 others Thank this. -
@Chinatown can probably help you find some place to get a job
BennysPennys, Another Canadian driver, Chinatown and 2 others Thank this. -
Gone are the days of the "driver's market." Less freight moving and greater capacity = those jobs people want are looking for any reason to not hire.
celticdriver23, snowmantrucking101, nredfor88 and 2 others Thank this. -
@Chinatown may have some alternate company suggestions for you. What city do you live in or near?aussiejosh, gentleroger, BennysPennys and 2 others Thank this. -
Freight is slowing down too. It is telling that Prime turned you down as well, they were looking for an easy way to let you down and the Swift story was the recruiter's 'out'.
Opus, TB John and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -
1) Schneider
2) JB Hunt
3) Munson
4) some reefer outfit (long out of business)
only Schneider REQUIRED a full set of back x-rays.......
and this is why, your bad back....you are a workers comp nightmare, and they would have never touched you
now a days, sleep apnea is as big a deal as those back x-rays were then.
i'd suggest some sort of surgical procedure to correct that back issue, cuz driving a truck is going to explode those bad disc's.
good luck.aussiejosh and Another Canadian driver Thank this.
