There are two double lane turns I make almost daily. I know from years of familiarity with the turn that I can make both of the right hand turns from the left lane without failing to maintain my lane. Therefore I make both turns from the left lane. I may be wrong in doing so but in both instances I need to almost immediately be in the left lane for a left hand turn. Therefore I do what I feel is safer. If I wasn’t familiar with both of these turns I would likely be in the right lane and then be at the mercy of traffic to allow me to merge left for my turn. So if I see a truck slightly ahead of me making the same turn I hold back to give them the space and the opportunity to come in my lane if they are turning left at the same street as I am. The other truck may not be familiar with the turn like I am.

I was going to ask what the intersection looks like. I could totally see a situation where trucks would need to be in a far right lane because they'd have to immediately exit again onto a truck route or something.

Basically a block or so from that light if you go west on Overland there’s a Lowe’s and a Walmart and stuff. If you go east on Overland there’s a Cat dealer and some other businesses. So it helps to know where you’re going. If you’re wanting to go east and you’re in the “truck” turn lane like he wanted to show off then immediately after making the right then you’d have to start trying to get over to the left turn lanes. If you are going south toward Kuna then you would want to turn from the right lane into the center lane so you can continue south. Lowes or WM you could make the turn from the right lane and go right into the right turn lane. There’s a lot more to it at that intersection than a simple “Trucks” sign in yellow.

If I’m not sure about a corner I’ll swing into the right turn lane if there is one and then back to the left so nobody can cut between me and the curb. About half the time I’m like “well there’s a lot of room here so that wasn’t necessary”. Lol.

    Scottie, you did it.
Started a new thread on an old topic that will span another thousand pages of no one agreeing on anything about the same thing.

    Good job.
