I have driven truck on & off over the years & just noticed something now that I am back to driving a big truck part time. It used to be when you passed another truck, the driver behind you would flash their lights when there was enough room for you to get back in the granny lane. And then you in return would flash your trailer light to say thank you. This is nearly non existent now. Did somebody change the unwritten rule, or is this new generation of truck drivers just too lazy to do it?

Anymore the feeling is, “I didn’t help you get over to pass, I’m not helping you back.”

And i once seen a car hit a bump, dipping headlights, and a truck thought they’d flashed to come over, truck ran car off side of hill.

I think it stopped because lots of new drivers started to flash high beams at night for that. I would not flash trailers if I got the high beam drivers. Not many flash lights today, I'll flash trailer lights if they do and not give me the high beams. Freightliner has button on steering wheel just for that. You would think drivers would do it more today vs back in the past with only switch was on the dash.

I don't flash lights for the same reason I ignore it when others flash their lights. Namely I'm the one driving my truck. I'm the one responsible if I hit something. I'll move over when I know it is safe to move over, not before then.

Heck I've had people flash lights for me to move over when there was a car in the lane.

I also tend to turn on my turn signal, and look away from the mirror as there is a better than even chance some dumba.... will flash his brights as soon as the turn signal turns on.

No common courtesy nowadays. Combined with steering wheel mentality. IMO
