Weight on Steer Axles

    I just found this in an old thread. Someone pulled on the scale and weighed with bags inflated and then weighed with the brake set. Trailer bags deflated.

    Only other thing i would caution if you havent already thought of it, fuel weight. Those look like twin 120s? Relatively centered so if you were at half full when weighingcould be another 400ish steer weight.

    If already full at weigh, ignore this

    Yes dumping the bags changes the weight... when u get good at it and have dump valves on drives and trailer that u can dump when u flip a switch u can really mess with the scale house and get by with an overweight load that looks legal if it's an axle scale.... Hahahaha

    If you continue to have problems then load the freight a little bit further back of the center point on trailer

    Also with the cat scales, they are going to be perfectly level. Least they should be. Once u pull onto it, use the break to get stopped and then let off the break, it should hold in place... or hold the service breaks, just don't pull the breaks and dump the bags

    If you put some chains and binders in a side box. It would move the weight back.

    I have my tarps in the side box. I reweighed empty and my steer axle 12,100 so I'm thinking I got a bad weigh because I brain cramped and dumped the trailer on the scale. I'm loading 46k on Tuesday so I'll check it then. TMC ran this truck just the way its setup so I think it will be ok.

    Check the door sticker inside on driver side. On my Freightliner they have axle ratings there. Then double check your tires and see if your legit. If you haven't already.

    When I was tanker they told us to release all brakes on the tractor and trailer when scaling. Granted going over scales I would stab my brakes so the whole truck would dance for the scale master. Smooth bore fun.

    I normally scale at 3/8ths in the fuel tank for an empty trailer.

    Indiana goes off the axle/tire rating for your steers. Most states do. But not all. That's the atlas page in the previous post.


    Anyway good luck. Its a nice looking truck
