Hey guys, I gotta pull the water pump, and re-paint the rusty pipes. Anyone know what the sensor is on the lower radiator pipe?

    Thank you, RR

BH tubes is what I replaced mine with. Stainless, no more issues.

    Unsure of the sensor.

They’re worth the $ if you’re going to keep it for a while. The only opening in mine I can think of is a drain tap, the sensor is up top.

Never seen a sensor in the lower pipe. A pic would help

Good idea, I will snap a pic tomorrow. Yeah the temp sensor is up top, so I can’t figure out what this one is, probably won’t matter.

GP stainless and the sensor could be a coolant pressure sensor.

I have no idea why they use it, it seems to be used on stationary engines but I had a few in my stock collection from a company I bought.

That sensor lets the ecu know if the water pump is flowing and how much it is pulling through the radiator. My old Pete has an optional old Stewart-Warner mechanical water pressure gauge in the dash. The old NH Cummins water pumps could make 25 psi in the system at rated speed and 8-10 psi at idle.

So that line/tube going to the lower radiator coolant tube doesn’t appear to have sensor in it, but it does contain a hollow space for coolant. It goes up under the air filter ( and then I can’t see where it goes), possibly the heater core. The line was held on by a radiator clamp, so I took it off and am just going to paint the coolant tube.

Thanks again for all the responses!

Probably for one of the heater cores. Good time to change all the heater hoses, new shutoff valves if needed. Add them if it doesn’t have any.

    RepoweredRookie Thanks this.
