Im company and I should just be shy of 100k this year. Most of the year I would only spend 2-4 nights in the truck per week. I like my time at home. Lately been staying out longer chasing money. If I want it, I could probably do close to 150k next year IF rates stay elevated and demand remains high.
Is chemical tanker right for me?

general chemical. A mix of non-hazmat and omg face melt if you spill a drop kind of stuff. I've been doing this going on 10 years and I think its pretty easy. Just wear your ppe and follow procedures and keep an eye on things and you'll be fine. The rates don't really correspond to the product hazardness, I can take soapy water and nitric acid to the same customer and get paid 50% more for the soapy water. It's just the nature of supply and demand.

I pulled chemical tank 4.5 years.
food grade for 1.5
Shave every day/every other day “Just incase you gotta wear a respirator.
Never wore one.
In all honesty I’d go to food grade tanker, don’t have to shave all the time and make the same to more.
Knew a few happy with Oakley out of lake wales florida.
They were based out of another terminal than FL. though
Even pulled permitted hazmat chemical tanks.
100k gross here.

This has been all on chemical side of tanker.Another Canadian driver, kemosabi49, 77fib77 and 2 others Thank this. -
Why worry about tank washes? A lot of companies pay you for the wait time and a lot of washout facilities have decent break rooms, showers and some have food. Not to mention you can take your 10 hour break and get paid if your waiting.
When I was mostly pulling chemical tanks I usually would drop the dirty tank and pickup a clean one and head to the next load.Another Canadian driver, Crude Truckin', LilRedRidingHood and 2 others Thank this. -
As far as making $100K+ a year, I’m sure you can as others have said but, I mostly haul aviation fuels in a day cab. I sometimes run AvGas overnight and it’s hotels for me. I don’t miss a sleeper at all.
I make between 70 and 80K. Could make a lot more doing the long haul chemicals but I’m happy doing this.Another Canadian driver, LilRedRidingHood, Dennixx and 1 other person Thank this.
