On a Carrier Ultra XTC; Anyone know how to remove the nylon drive gear/ coupling gear?

It sits in between the compressor and the engine flywheel, to the left of the lower belt. ( Its blue in color..if not too dirty and has a smaller steel gear inside of it).

    Thanks.. 20221014_094110.jpg

I took something very similar apart because I wanted the engine but I am pretty certain that if you take the lock tabs off of the blue nylon part and remove the bolts and then unbolt the pully from the flywheel the pulley will fit out through where you took the picture. And then the blue thing can slide off the shaft 12 bolts total I believe

    baha Thanks this.

You have to remove the compressor to do it.To do this you ll have to pump it down.

Oh man...ok..I wanted to try and do it...as much as I thought I was able to I guess I cant. I have nothing to pump down the compressor with or to pick it up out of the way.

It seems all the shops are booked and I wanted to get going...

    Thanks for the reply..

You can do it "old school" style without gauges and vacuum pump if you want to.

Thanks, but the pulley is actually that whole part that goes bolted on the flywheel. And the compressor shaft goes in a good bit. So even unbolted from the flywheel , becuase of the shaft, its not letting me take that huge pulley out....i thought there was a trick to it but reeferwrencher says I have to move the compressor...so not good for me...

Does the compressor stay in the bay? or does it have to be removed and disconnected and all that? Or do you mean just kind of unbolted and shoved to the side for clearance?

You have to unbolt the mounts and both vibes and housing bolts and turn the compressor to pull the coupler off the gear. The compressor mounts are the rear engine mounts so you have to block up the engine as well which you can simply do by putting a small block of wood between the oil pan and frame.

Remember you have to pump the compressor down before you do anything.
