I know when it's 65-70 degrees out I'll idle the truck for a bit until everything underneath cools off then open both windows. If I shut it off right away and go lay in the sleeper I'll immediately start sweating from the heat radiating up from underneath

I had to idle for a week at temps like that.
No one but me knew the reason.
Starter went out so I pulled started it, ran my booked loads then repaired it.
But I bet some yahoo asked, “Why does this guy have his truck running.”
The answer, I’m not paying someone to pull start me every day, it’d be cheaper to pay for the fuel at .90/gallon an hour.(around $45 for 10 hours at $5/gallon) than $200 service call maybe more.RJM1953, Concorde, Another Canadian driver and 7 others Thank this. -
But they are not in the truck while it’s idling. Sounds like they are involved in the unloading process in some way.RJM1953, nredfor88, Another Canadian driver and 1 other person Thank this.

Why not just put a starter on your truck. I’ve done a couple in parking lots. Takes two hours tops with a few simple tools. Used to only take about 30 minutes, but for the most part those days are gone.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

Because I run ag exempt loads and already doing 16-18 hours a day.
So i waited til the weekend, which i still didn’t get in til right at noon Saturday.
Waiting on them to open at 0800 now, then gotta wash out, drive 100 miles, reload and i’ll unload tonight at midnight in Kansas. -
I share the opinion that some of you have when it comes to idling when it's mild or reasonable. I don't really get it either, as high as fuel is. I guess people have different preferences when they sleep and some like idling all day and night. Though they can't get frustrated with these newer trucks because thise drivers will be having to regen a hell of a lot more, and they will fast track DPF Maintenance. Soot build up is much more monumental when a driver idles so the overall cost of idling goes a way farther than just the price of fuel.

As a general rule if your idleing 10-15 mins after a run with a heavy load. Thats fine to me. Gives that scorching hot transmission and engine time to cool down so the APU or nice weather can keep you comfortable. Ive also started my own truck and idled 10 or 15 after being in say a truckstop or something for a while to get things cooled down for my APU or the local weather to take over as well.
Only time i give zero ####s about idleing is when im sick. If im out driving and already pretty misrible im going to do anything and everything to mitigate said feeling as i can so i can force myself to keep running. Though after my experinces with that one APU almost killing me im considerably more leery of encloseing my truck entirely too. So there is that.Another Canadian driver, Feedman, kylefitzy and 2 others Thank this. -
Can some one start a fuel page where we put up cash prices on fuel ⛽
Another Canadian driver and bzinger Thank this. -
I do idle my personal cars alot yes...i also idle my truck all day everyday... Emission systems need maintained better if you have high idle times... Nothing more nothing less... Fuel and emissions is the cost of doing business i increase my revenue to make up for it instead of cutting costs....there is so many trucking companies that do nothing but complain complain complain about fuel, complain about emissions complain about drivers blah blah blah...then they wonder why they cant get any workers.. I sometimes wonder if they forget what business they are inAnother Canadian driver, Born2win and bzinger Thank this.
