Exactly, at least someone’s doing something. We’re all responsible for the state of this Industry. Simply by participating. Guilty by association, as they say. I’m not a fan of their Insurance products. Overpriced. Simple, I don’t participate in any of them. I am a member, since 1995, They’re responsible for the Truth in Leasing Laws. Being Independent and belonging to any Organization still seems like a contradiction in many ways. But Im still a Teamster, even though it’s been 27 yrs. Since I had a Union job. Never know, I may go to work for ABF yet. There’s always those who try to get things accomplished. And there’s those who benefit, yet do nothing except complain about everything.

I’ll add. I use the Drug/Alcohol Testing program. They’ve always been very good. Never had a problem. Personally, I think they represent Lease Operators more than O/O with authority. In that sense, it seems almost like a Union. Being United and Independent don’t really go together. Too bad corruption ruined the Teamsters. Truckers had a real good thing going for a short while. On the other hand, being able to get authority and access to freight has its advantages also. I’m just doing the best I can with what’s available. I didn’t create the Industries problems, but tolerate and try to navigate using what opportunities are available. It’s a choice. No one’s forcing anyone to participate.

If you buy a lot of stuff for your truck the discount program pays for the membership so it's not really costing you anything.

The only thing I can add to this is, when we started our hotshot business in 2005, I asked them for advice on freight factoring. They put me onto an existing corporation that was branching out into the factoring business. They had an introductory rate of 1%. It was good for as long as you kept up the contract. I used that until I went out. So, since I was needing to use one to get started, that was basically a steal.

That's really the only thing they did for me that I can recall but it saved me a bunch of money while getting started. However, it was the only thing I asked them about too.

If I was still an O/O I'd pay the membership & join... JMHO.

I had asked OOIDA about charge-backs and they referred me to some attorneys. None of whom were able to help. So, I'm now pursuing it on my own. You'd think a breach of contract attorney would be easy to find, but they aren't. Soon as you mention 49 CFR 376.12 they act like it's uncharted waters.

Come on $45 a year! Even cheaper than that during the annual membership drive.
Thats less than 2 meals at T/a or Petro.

    1) Being able to make a call and get accurate trucking related info.
    2) Getting discounts for parts or add on's
Those two alone make it MORE than worth it.
I do REALLY miss the members only web page that was like this site. It alone was more than the cost of membership.
