CA School Bus Driving

Hi everyone,

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this question, or if it has been answered before. I work for a school district and I wanted to look into becoming a Bus driver. My boss has a problem with follow through and so I'd like to get as much of the leg work as possible i.e. physicals, testing and such before I have to involve him to make things a little faster. My question is this: What do I need to get my CDL permit? Can I just walk into the DMV and say that I want to take the test? Do I need my physical, or any kind of formal classroom training requirement, other paper work? Can I just study the manual and take the test? Thanks in advance.
