A few years back, I was in a Petro. Got into a conversation with a young driver.
“…my company notified me that I had paid off my lease purchase. Well, the sold my truck and are using that money as a down payment for a new lease purchase.”
When did you pay off the truck?
“I don’t know, they didn’t tell me.”
So, if your payment is $1000/week, and you paid it off 6 weeks ago, how much do they owe you?
“……?”
How much did the sell the truck for?
“I don’t know, they didn’t tell me.”
If they sold your truck for $40k, how much do they owe you?
“….?”
How much is the down payment for the new LP?
“I don’t know, they didn’t tell me.”
What do you know?
“…..?”
It is not my intention to make someone feel stupid or slow, in fact I believe that the more successful everyone is, the better things will be for everyone. But how can you be in this business and not be good with numbers? Even as a company driver on ELogs, you still have to know your numbers to maximize your time. You just can’t sit behind the wheel and stare empty headed out the window. Well, I guess you can if you have someone holding your hand. But if you are the one paying the bills like a LO and OO?

Often not true. Dealers don't want you to pay cash, they want you to finance. That's where they make the real money.
-
And don’t ever say you’re planning on paying it off early and just want to build credit because they will offer some absurd rate from their financing partner knowing that most people won’t actually pay it off early. Then they’ll pull out the ‘Interest won’t matter much if you get this 3 year loan paid off in 6 months like you plan’BennysPennys, Another Canadian driver, TripleSix and 1 other person Thank this.

Actually the bank still used the poor credit holder as the owner with good credit holder as guarantor.
in other words, sub prime loan. Where it could have been avoided if only purchased under wife’s name.BennysPennys, Another Canadian driver and TripleSix Thank this. -
MOTS: Pay cash. It's silly to finance a depreciating asset.

When I traded the ‘75 Vette for a ‘19 Challenger a couple of years back - I let them stew on the $8k firm on the trade in for a couple of days.
Had the salesman drive the Challenger out to the house, pick up the Vette, and signed the paperwork and handed him part cash and part bank loan check - drinking a beer on the deck on my time.
I refuse to spend any time in their stupid finance office, buy warranty, undercoat or tolerate any of their horse hockey.
I understand dealer financing on a primary vehicle, for spouse or both, but secondary vehicles or toys, should always be cash or bank financed.
