Mine is gonna be real expensive, hopefully I don't loose my job. It wasn't my fault, but it's gonna be an expensive day. Went to stretch my chassis out while loaded with 44,000 lbs of beans, right side stopper for the slide assembly sheared off (the break had rust on it so I think it may have been like that for some time) when I tried to stretch, dropped the container and front half of the chassis on US 385 in Ne. The chassis has to be shortened while loading, it froze in the short position, when I tried to stretch it at the customer the tri-dem (3-axle chassis) kept sliding on the ice. Had to wait til I could find pavement, as soon as I got on 385, I looked, no traffic, came to a complete stop in the middle of the road, followed my proper procedure for stretching the chassis, and it promptly seperated. The upside, cops from 3 different agencies (Alliance PD, Box Butte SO, Ne. State Patrol) not a single ticket issued. The down side, myself and a coworker have to go back in the AM to have the container transferred to a new chassis and have the dead chassis loaded on one of our flatbeds, not to mention I get to sign the tow bill, I'm figuring at least $1,200.

There was a swift driver for real that did the same thing at the pilot truck stop at Ontario Oregon, the tandems came clear out from under the trailer just like yours. Man what a crappy day that would make.

Sorry to hear about that. It all appears like it was an equipment failure, though, so hope your company doesn't come down hard.

well, knock on wood, at least until 5pm Monday I still have a job. Coworker and I went and picked up the container and the chassis, plus I got to pay the tow bill with my company credit card: $3,477.23. Not bad all things considered, but like my boss said it could have definetly been worse.

Mine wasn't tandems, thats a tridem (3-axles) that stretches the chassis out for weight distribution. shortened, the chassis is 30' long, stretched it's 40' long.
