Flat metal wire mesh 8 by 8 shifting load

Usually a load like this requires that you strap and tighten from both sides of the trailer. If your load is shifting to one side, throw straps and tighten on the side opposing the lean.

 

I would strap from the other side as previously noted and roll with it. A foot doesn’t seem too bad and if you are 200 miles out I believe you are OK. Some loads like this can move a little and your best bet is to strap a lot and make sure it’s extremely tight.

 

Wire is fun to haul.
Best way was since you have 3 stacks, Strap them, then put the other three on top, then strap them.
I’d say 3 straps on bottom, 4 over top.
Then you don’t go flying around curves cause it will lie down as it springs.
Drive like a load of eggs.

I don’t have a load of wire hand but I’ll use what I do, use your imagination.


Say the wire loaded like that second high pallet, where I’d throw straps or run through the pallet with my 1x8 board I carried to run the hook of a strap through, though at 7 stacks I’d say go 3, Throw three straps tighten, put other section, 4, on top, 4 straps.

I had 15 wenches on trailer plus carried two portable ones.

I hauled a couple pallets of 4'x4' wire mesh decks for pallet racking a while ago. I found that a couple boards running lengthwise along the top of the stack where it was strapped helped spread the stress of the straps so I could ratchet them down tighter without distorting the product.

 

I had a similar load once that did the exact same thing. I threw a couple cross chains on the ends. I wasn’t able to fix the shift, but this seemed to prevent it from getting any worse. Note this was several years ago, I just happened to still have the picture saved. Also, that trailer only had winches on one side, otherwise I would have done as others have suggested and tightened from both sides.

 

Kind of the same but different. This is how I’d do it when we would haul this stuff out of Calgary.

 

That is about how we do that. Only difference is I like to put a piece of wood on the top in the middle of the stack. Helps with squeezing the load down.
