Let me "stir the pot" when it comes to Texas. If I had a pea patch in Texas and a home in hell, I would pick my peas and go home.

About 10 years ago I came through Houston and they had a F250 with a tank in the back that is used to spray the weeds on the side of the road. They had it full of brine and two guys in the bed wiggling the wands back and forth.austinmike and Grouch Thank this.

I left West Monroe, La this morning at 6:45 for Dallas. Got through Shreveport, crossed into TX and dispatch calls:
Dispatch: Umm, where you at?
Me: Waskom, TX just across the TX line.
Dispatch: Well turn around & come back. Dallas is locked up.

Several years ago, sitting in an ice storm in Knoxville, Tn. Traffic was at a standstill on 1-40. Someone hollered over the CB. Here comes a 'salt shaker", guess what it was? A man on the back of a dump truck with a bag of salt trying to shake the salt out of the bag, That my friend is Tn version of a "salt shaker".austinmike, The Railsplitter and 062 Thank this.

I'm all for safe roads and good use of money and all that, but do you know how many trucks and how much equipment it would take to make it even remotely worth while to do any good? You need trucks, payloaders, pumps, tank. Then you need salt and brine. And all that stuff is just gonna sit and rot doing nothing but waiting for maybe one event a year.Oxbow, Getsinyourblood, Grumppy and 1 other person Thank this.

Last ice event I had to deal with in Austin was about 2005. Was working for a towing outfit. Had a paper thin sheet of ice on the roads. I saw stuff that looked straight out of a disaster movie lol. Was on call that night, stayed out till about 2am and went home.
