You guys do that too?
My outfit was looking for some volunteers to go to Texas. I told them I might do it if I can take the truck and trailer with me, but they lost me at the word “flight”.McUzi and road_runner Thank this. -
it’s all seniority based of course, but we have sent guys as far as west coast states, Vermont, and all the southern and southwest states go help other terminals. We average about 10 city guys traveling a week when they offer it. Line haul travel is 2-3 weeks at a time when they offer it . There is a bunch of extra pay in traveling so guys usually jump on it.Cardfan89 Thanks this.

I had the option to take one at bid time, but it's a run that isn't worth doing in the winter. I'm very much looking forward to taking my first daytime bid this spring.Last edited: Feb 17, 2023

Prior to the layoff, we had weekly traveler opportunities ranging from Cali all the way to Atlanta with huge financial incentives.
They offered $100 per diem and even double and triple time during the weekend. Too many people complained that they were only getting straight pay and the company held back the incentive pay, which is why i didn't sign up.Gearjammin' Penguin, Mike2633 and Cardfan89 Thank this. -
No kidding. Give me my own truck and pay mileage. Have a place for all your personal stuff and instant 24 hour transportation access when you want to see Shamu at Sea World on your day off.
No way i want to keep track of Über or Taxi receipts and rely on company reimbursement.Gearjammin' Penguin, Cardfan89, Mike2633 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Okay, @road_runner ’s thread needs a little love.
A day linehaul got posted at our barn today, but I don’t dislike my Delmarva flat land peddle run enough to want to take a meet and turn linehaul run to the mountains with a 10:30 AM start.
Now if went to a terminal on the other hand...road_runner and Cardfan89 Thank this. -
Day time linehaul is the Holy Grail of linehaul. I am annoyed that you turned this down. But I am also super envious that your peddle run was so great that you turned down a daytime meet and turn.Cardfan89, MACK E-6 and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this.

I don’t necessarily know about “great” but I run enough miles in a day to scratch the road itch, so the conditions have to be just right for me to jump ship. Running out to the mountains where it snows in July on a 10:30 cut, as opposed to my current territory where I’ve had to deal with a snowstorm perhaps twice in the last 8 years, and add to that the risk of possibly the world’s dumbest driver coming from the other end?
No, that isn’t worth the switch from the devil I know, IMHO.Digman943, Cardfan89, road_runner and 2 others Thank this. -
I’d take a flatland peddle over a mountain linehaul every time. I am an unapologetic flat lander and I positively hate snow, especially in combination with hills (unless I’m on vacation with the kids… that’s different).
