6 years OTR but struggling to get back in it

If you want a bit of a brain/physical challenge, there's always flatbed/platform. I was bored to tears after 10 years of just holding a steering wheel pulling wiggle wagons, that's when she retired and I bought the truck.

Almost 10 years later, I get a similar feeling lately - I find it real hard lately to get in the truck and go, nervous, upset stomach, shaky. When I finally get out and focused on the job I'm fine, it's that initial push that is getting harder to muster.

As an aside, I hope you have an address of file so you can take advantage of the meal allowance, tax wise..

 

After about a decade in the business, I got burnt-out, so I went back to college and got my degree. I found that moving companies were always looking for guys with class A CDLs, so I worked as a bed-bugger over summer vacations, and did some weekend work between the moving company and a couple local truckload delivery companies. Heck, I made almost double what most college students made on their part-time jobs. Got my degree, and today make ~$60k on a job where I ONLY work 7-3:30, 5 days a week (I'm winding down for retirement in the next 2-3 years).

The fact is, trucking will always be essentially what it is now. If you can't find a company that has a schedule that works for you, then find another way to make a living.

 

Aged 27? Single...with no kids? Feeling just really "burnt out"?

There's really just only one possible option left....

Could it be that your love life has maybe spent too much time sitting in the parking lot (even up on blocks)?

Has it been too long since the right date took you "through the gears"?

Maybe you need to mix up something of a real social life along with that trucking life.....

Go get a job in food service or something dealing with the modern public.

You'll be ready to hop back in that truck and keep the door shut real quick.
