During the first energy 'crisis', Chen Leaman took trailers at each location to store fuel as the futures delivered. We washed a fairly new 925 cu ft J model Fruehauf, removed the air pads and installed gate valves and parked it close to the underground tank fill by the fuel island.

In the 90's Matlack did the same, we had a few MC307's parked in along the fence the kept filling.

The Mega's do work the futures market for the best price but when they deliver, you gotta put it somewhere...

Easy load & unload. Never had a negative experience with shippers & receivers. I did OTR 48 states & Canada.

I pulled refer for quite a few years. Most loads were pretty good especially the chicken and meat loads to distributors.
Produce, depending on who is receiving it.
Tankers for the last 20 years. Things are slow now. At least with refers it’s steady work since people have to eat no matter how bad the economy gets.

    Truckingdaytrader and Chinatown Thank this.

The water did not require placards. Its was water that had been used in the treatment plant at mtn pass, and headed for a company that finished cleaning it up before sending it to the ocean.

What I do is pretty easy. I haul herbicide, LP, Anhydrous Ammonia, as little asphalt as I can get away with, and the odd fertilizer or waste water load. I really like herbicide for OTR, but I'm getting to the point where like to be home every night. Propane is great as I get to load myself and unload myself 24hrs most places. I rarely ever have to deal with people as well. Anhydrous I just do during the application season so it is super hectic and pays really well for a short period of time. Unload is by myself basically the same as LP. I absolutely despise the appointment times and waiting around that dealing with asphalt can bring. "It might rain so just hang out a bit." "We thought we needed 3 loads but only needed 1 because a few other loads got cancelled. Go on and head home" after only one load.

How's the consistency with chemicals vs food grade ? I'm seeing food grade pay anywhere from 5-10 cpm less than chemical. Does chemical slow down quite a bit, is there less miles than food?

I do local home every night chemical work and we slow down during winter usually for a small amount of time. But by slow I mean it’ll go from 65-70 hours in the summer and fall to 45-55 hours usually.
