Cheap place to start would be rebalance steers - and watch them do it. If they need any more than 8oz , I'd have them break them off the bead, rotate 120-180 degrees and remount. Centramatics are pretty cheap for in motion balancing, some prefer the beads. If they have a little gauge to put up against the tread/sidewall, use this to check for out of round.

Alignment - I only ever go to MD Alignment shops, specifically Chad in KC. He'll fully inspect the truck and if there is ANYTHING that he finds, he'll send you off to repair/replace, and bring it back for alignment.

I like this method, because you don't waste time and money chasing a problem, or waste money on the alignment itself.

Either shop are known to be well above the rest. I’d plan to have them go through everything, front to rear, with no expense spared.

 

Chad in KC might charge you $80 odd for the inspection, if he doesn't think you're coming back for the alignment - covers his time/knowledge and expense. There is a repair shop next door and they're pretty good and reasonable, but separate from Chad's business.

My red T2000 got aligned once and that's all it needed. The Pete I just took up last year for the second time in 4 years - suspension bushings/blocks needed replaced.

 

We have had this issue with several of our trucks due to cheap steer tires. Upgraded to michelin tires, properly balanced, and problem solved.

 

I've had good runs with Michelin - I think they're 'X-Line Energy Z".

 

Can't recall what the DOT says for excessive play at steering wheel, maybe 2" ?

What tires are you running on the front now?

 

And what state are you in? Some fellas around here might have good recommendations for front end/alignment gurus closer to where you are.
