Best answer yet. I do think EVs can work in a urban situation, where charging can be done at home, or a city delivery, like over 100 years ago, and emphasis will be on that, not long distance. I'm out of the loop as far as hours, but these EV advocates ALWAYS overlook,,,where is the juice going to come from on our already overtaxed electrical grid? EVs may work in a "Smart-type" car, but any weight requires a LOT of juice. Heck, half the trailer would have to be batteries. I read a review of a new F150 EV, pulling a trailer with a Model A, the reviewer said all was well until he hit the highway. The charge dropped so fast, he had to turn around, for fear of "range anxiety", and didn't recommend the vehicle to anyone. Now I'm no visionary, but I think if fuel gets that tight, all remaining oil will go to trucks, to keep America moving, and a shift back to city settings and mass transit. We have to get past this "battery" thing, we've been hassling with it for 120 years, with little change. The only thing I could see EVs working for passenger cars, would be an interchange system, where you stop, get a freshly charged battery, like a forklift, but a truck is way too big and not practical for that. Until the "miracle chunk" of energy is released( currently in a lab in Phoenix somewhere), we'll just suck the oil dry, and THEN worry about it, in true American fashion. EVs, to me, are just a bandaid on a heart attack, and solve nothing, but bilk the public until we wise up and refuse this foolishness. Might be a while,,,

Would you want to sleep in an electric truck, while on charger, with the understanding it could, give off toxic gases, get over charged and catch fire?
if that happens, I’ll Farm tag my trucks, or set them up, put a bucket over the stacks and line them up.
My next job will be a safety coordinator at a mega, so y’all better watch yourselves, I know all the tricks!
hope not dumb twucker Thanks this. -
‘Electric Trucks’ is just silly, stupid talk. As it stands now, the battery issue with just cars alone, is a looming disaster. In a very few, tightly compacted urban areas, an electric truck may(possibly) make sense.

I recently quit deiving OTR (long haul)... But when I did I usually run 10 to 11 hours per day with one 30 min break somewhere durring the day and then a 10 to 10.5 hr break to sleep, and maybe one or two 5-10 mims stops for restroom breaks. Usually fueled right before I parked for the night or first thing in the morning before starting my day. Sometimes I didnt fuel each day, because I was not around a fuel stop, when running across the country its not uncommon to park in rural locations that are several hundred miles from a truck stop... Or sometimes even that far from a town.
So my big question is:
How are electric trucks going to handle cold temperatures... Like 20F to 50F below zero??? Batteries dont like cold in my experience. Just cause it gets cold dont mean trucks stop.
100% electric trucks are a waste of time and money at this point in the game, the infrastructure is probably at least 30 to 50 years off still.JolliRoger, Soltaker, Opus and 2 others Thank this. -
Imagine it's 1900.
And the first automobile rolls out with its 2 gallon gas tank. And not a station to be found.viper822004 and Cattleman84 Thank this. -

Tell me way does it take a 5v charger 1hr 45min to charge my cell phone....
Do you remember back when they use to strip mine coal.... they put a stop to it because it was bad for the environment..... have you ever seen a Lithium mine....??
Their is no way to recycle a Lithium battery so what are they going to do....??
How about the fact that they are very very VERY slow to charge when it's below freezing IF they charge at all... remember all the ev horror stories last winter...
How about the fact that using the air conditioner or heater cut the range buy up to 1/3.... 350mile v 225miles..
Fact and yes it was all over the news, you can google it... I guy moved from LA to Detroit driving a ev pu towing his newer mustang... he had to stop every 100 miles (1.5hr) to recharge it for 45-60 minutes.... that's a avg. Of 40mph...Numb and Cattleman84 Thank this. -
