Do they pay per diem? -
Hows the hiring process after i get the call and take road test and after i do my drug test and physical update.
Hows orientation and how long is orientation and or training before i actually get assigned a truck and start hauling?
Also where can i find the terminal managers phone number or email at on the cooper website? -
There’s no orientation. You get some keys and they throw you to the wolves. One of the things I don’t like about Cooper.
They just changed the website; you used to be able to click on “terminal locations” and it would have managements info. Just call the terminal and ask to speak to the terminal manager if they’re in they’ll answer. -
Wow they dont go over policies or safety or placards wow. They dont explain there bol process. So basically if hired be prepared to work when they say jump lol..
Do you have to wear uniforms and or boots?
How often do you haul hazmat with AAA COOPER? -
if you’re an experienced driver with hazmat you don’t need to be told to placard your loads. They don’t generally hire greenhorns. I’d imagine that’s their reasoning.
You’re gonna get basic minimal training they have to give you for liability, but no they’re not gonna hold your hand.
Safeties pretty simple don’t hit anything, don’t talk on a phone, watch out for low lines, etc…
It’s pretty common sense if you’re a seasoned driver.
Generally, yes you have to wear your uniform and steel toe boots. Also no one can answer how often you haul hazmat. I’d say everyday? Maybe not placard-able but LTL ships a lot of hazmat like chlorine, caulking, batteries, etc
You have never worked in LTL?Last edited: Jul 13, 2023

Not for a real ltl company just fedex ground.. ive hauled a few hazmat loads before but it was years ago and they normally had a number too call and would ask what you had and they would either tell me what placards i needed or basically double check with me that i had everything correct before department that was the policy i followed everyone policies are different..
I have a basic understanding but too say im a seasoned vet with hazmat id be lying too myself.. thats a good response too just assume every load might be placard.. obviously i know the common sense like there are certain routes you have too take when placards..
Basically i just got all my endorsements just incase but originally when i got them i never even thought id ever haul doubles never wanted too but hear i am hauling doubles for over 3yrs now lol..
I obviously know about leaving the paperwork on the seat or in the door when unattended as well as mark the correct page in erg book with documents in it.
But as far as whats considered bulk or what not honestly im just unfamiliar with it because i haven't hauled enough of it because i basically thought id never use it.. just got all my endorsements because i was told id be more of an asset with them and it would open up new opportunities so here we are..
Rl carriers had a whole week orientation on the stuff it was the most boring orientation ive ever attended it was over kill too say the least.. my wife retains that hazmat stuff better then i because she was a shipping manager for many years and periodically she would have too ship hazmat so she has a better understanding.
I was just wondering if they were gunna do the whole rl carriers route a whole week lol.. -
If i have too ill just look up some hazmat videos until i fully understand the whole placards class and all that 100% but like i said i haven't hauled enough of it too say im a veteran with the stuff i just never hauled it really.. usually when i did haul it the shipper supplied the placards so i just stuck them on and marked the erg book with paperwork inside it and thats it.. now i notice they have flip placards on trucks which is easier i used too have too tape it and everything lol took a minute again that was policy..
So no reinforcement boots has too be steel toe.. id imagine thats only when on company policy im sure i can take them off when driving and drive in regular sneakers or work appropriate shoes.
Well i dont wanna annoy you with anymore questions i appreciate all the information you have been very responsive and helpful thank you. Im going too call them today and ask everything i feel i need.. ill keep you informed how it goes and what they say. If you feel you need too add more at that point feel free.. but too me they sound like a great company and i wouldn't mind working for them. I like being able too just do my job and have a company trust that i know what im doing and leave me alone.. -
Placards are easy. 1001lbs+ outbound management will let you know, and your paperwork will be labeled. It has to be legally. Management will help you with this just ask they don’t want your messing up their safety score otherwise. Also you’ll watch those lame videos from the 1980s that’s their idea of training I don’t think that’s training
I would wear boots 24/7 in my opinion. This industry is dangerous what if you drop a dolly on your toe or something. I’m sure the actual policy is whenever you’re on the clock; not on property. You’re their responsibility when you’re getting paid after all.
they make low profile boots; I wear “Yeezy” style boots. They look like socks pretty much, but theyre steel toeLast edited: Jul 13, 2023

Ohh thanks for this very descriptive and detailed response it really helps and is reassuring. Yeah this is they type of training or orientation i was expecting watch some videos and thats your training. I have too agree i dont think thats training either but its just too save there b u t t is all too. You maid it sound like they left it all on the driver too figure it out lol. But yeah this is what i thought they would do make sure your all good before you depart so then we good nothing too fear after all.
Yeah what if you slip in diesel fuel or snow and you dont have your boots on then they gunna say why didn't you have your boots on.. but we all know even in boots you will still slip in diesel fuel and snow ect they always say slip resistance lol but they are not..
I just cant drive in boots all day they are too heavy im flat footed so i needs some real comfortable shoes and ive never found any pair of boots capable of giving me true all day comfort. Ill wear them when im performing a on duty task for sure but if im driving im putting sneakers on.
So they cant be reinforced boots they have too be fully steel toe?
My neighbor gave me a pair of brand new yeezy lol not steel toe though just the running shoes type they are actually surprisingly comfortable but ugly as #### look like space shoes lol..
when you type in gps your hauling hazmat and it takes you on the hazmat route around bridges and underpass and tunnels.
How long are you typically on back country roads? Also what gps do you prefer?
I use rand mcnally its been pretty reliable for me. I own the dezl garmin as well but its brand new and wont hold its charge keeps turning off on me i like how detailed the garmin is with live traffic updates but it seems too always try to send me on back country roads cause it thinks its faster and their isnt a function too go around that like their is on rand mcnally gps.
A driver told me for the most part hazmat routes are just major highways it will just detour around low bridges, tunnels, ect once its around those hazards then it should route you back on the major hwy for the duration of your drive i believe. Just hate back country roads cause no where too stop usually lol..
