Why not just wear a mask or a respirator? That’s what I did when I pulled a pneumatic and a hopper and was in a dusty environment.

You can be sure that it was almost assuredly a requirement... when I was hauling silica sand, I wore respirators all the time (company OSHA and customer requirement) and almost always while unloading.. a driver would come up and start trying to talk to me.... without one. I would say that fewer than 10% of the drivers would wear respirators.. and I'm also sure that they will complain about the silicosis that they will end up with.

The compliance rate for the use of respirators is very low. many people seem to think they are overkill, that is until they get sick from not using it. The human lung is not designed to breathe in anything but clean air and we all know it but look around, over 10% of Americans still smoke. Direct, intentional inhalation of all kinds of things the human lung is not made for so no one should be surprised that people often fail to wear a respirator.
