I think some of it stems from envy that somebody has a better job. But hey, they went out of business so who has the better job now? Well, I don't think there's much debate on that but I'll keep my opinion to myself.Albertaflatbed and Last Call Thank this.

That may be true in some cases, but you have no idea how terrible the extra board has been the past year. You expect to be called after your 8-10 hours of rest, but that rarely happened(atleast at my home terminal). Instead, you'll stay up the whole day waiting for a call, then when you're in the middle of your sleep they'll call expecting you to answer and ready to work. If you don't answer you won't be called for another 24 hours. If you tell them you're tired, they're supposed to call you 8hrs later, but it could be longer, even days. So what most drivers I know did was take the call regardless of how tired they were, and then take a nap after driving 3 hours or so. I always saw other Yellow trucks on ramps, and I'm certain that's the reason. Sometimes I had to take 2x naps. I got more quality sleep when I was OTR + worked an hourly local job than I ever did working extra board at Yellow. I'm speaking only how linehaul at my terminal went.Albertaflatbed, thekidsixer, dancecanyon and 3 others Thank this.

he was the ceo of yellow from the late 90s until the 2010s and a huge proponent of buying reduntant companies with debt, then shutting down those redundant companies and crossing his fingers and hoping those closed companies' customers would have yellow handle their freight. he's also a proponent of blaming the union for yellow's debt problems. as far as operations goes, he did some really dumb stuff (having regional subsidiaries compete against eachother, charging regional subsidiaries "management fees" to skew their numbers downwards, fight the union for the implementation of the "utility" driver position and scrap it a year after it was passed, etc).. now i admittedly may be more union-sympathizing than some on this board, but i cant imagine anybody saying that guy had any business savvy at all. anyways, he got a golden parachute payout after destroying yellow and he serves on a couple corporate boards now.Albertaflatbed, dancecanyon, rollin coal and 4 others Thank this.
