I’m no expert BUT it’s always been my understanding and have been told during numerous safety seminars I’ve attended
(Mostly to help my insurance rates)
By current State DOT officials that random testing can only legally be done at 2 times
1-when a driver is reporting for duty
    2-when a driver is concluding a shift
So you’re situation seems improper to me
    Hope you can resolve this

That’s the kind of crap I have no patience for.

To hell with “make somebody look bad”. All I think about is “the sooner I get done, the sooner I can go home”.

I’ve read about it on here before.

Apparently once you answer the phone you’re considered notified and the clock starts.

Seems as if from what I can see it isn’t proper

I’ve no doubt that you’re right, because the very idea just struck me as dirty as can be. But it’s happened to people before, and with YRC now being defunct @road_runner might not even have any recourse.

You are correct. What likely happened is a manager misunderstood his instructions from HR.

HR messages the manager "you need to random these 5 guys". The manager knows that policy is to get the random done within 1 business day of being notified, so he calls everyone, not understanding that Bob is off that day, so it's not a "business day" for Bob.

The other possibility is the driver was listed as "on call", which makes them eligible for randoms.

Carrier I was leased to as an O/O with no forced dispatch did this.
Phone call: Are you working today Yes
I need you to do a random . Your hooked now.
    Yellows Policy
Punch in and be informed of a random. Usually had a company come out and do at terminal.
If no somebody would drive us to location to be tested On The Clock.
If manager called on your day off they owe you 8 hours pay. If its 6 th or 7 th punch they pay accordingly .

    Siinman and ‘Olhand Thank this.

You saying I can't enjoy an adult beverage when I get home for the weekend?:eek:

I don't really drink but on the extremely rare occasion that I do, I never do so the day or night before I go back to work.

Great concise summary of old $Bill. Heard he spent time at Kodak in management as well. Many of the companies he purchased were profitable and much better run than yellow.

Shuttered Georgia trucking company files for Chapter 7

Among Big J Express’ top 20 secured creditors are Volvo Financial Services of Mobile, Alabama, owed more than $2 million for seven 2022 and 2023 Volvo tractors; Amur Equipment Finance Inc. of Grand Island, Nebraska, owed nearly $1.1 million for five 2022 Wabash National trailers; and TF Group Inc., doing business as Traycor Financial of El Segundo, California, owed more than $833,000 for four 2022 Wabash National trailers.

285k per tractor, and 200k per trailer. Sounds about right for a good business plan.
