Wow
two million in Covid money .
the owner just took that money and closed down .
Same as Yellow
I’m guessing we will see a lot more of this
I’m guessing the biz had to stay open for a certain number of months after getting the free Covid money?
How do you borrow $285k for a tractor from the dealer ?
And $200k per trailer from the manufacturer?
Those trailers were what $60k new ?dwells40, Still undecided, blairandgretchen and 1 other person Thank this. -

Thank you for your answer. I've never been in the union but I do respect the fact that if it weren't for the unions of years gone by the average American wages would probably be a lot lower than they are now. Heck we would probably have a lot worse working conditions all the way around if it weren't for those that stood an fought before for better conditions, wages, an benefits.Albertaflatbed, dancecanyon, dwells40 and 6 others Thank this. -
ABF once attempted a similar strategy when they purchased Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation (CFCC). We were 4th or 5th largest LTL at the time and the buyout/merger about killed ABF. They were hoping to keep the majority of CFCC’s customer base but retained very little. Also dovetailed the seniority lists which created a lot of animosity amongst the rank and file. ABF didn’t keep enough business to keep every busy lots of lost jobs. Ironically GI trucking was CFCC non union subsidiary on the west coast and Estes was an interline company for us in the mid south. ABF left the door open for these two companies to suck up alit of CFCC business and we end up with Estes expanding west and hooking up with GI and we get the Estes many of you know now. Don’t even get me started on the double breasting with the regional Conways that eventually morphed into XPO that sunk Consolidated Freighteays (CF)

Yeah, Yellow definitely is not supposed to call you at all on your PTO/ETO/Vacation since you're not on call. I don't know if he was a city driver or linehaul, but with the extra board linehaul you don't get "off days". You get earned time off(ETO), and they absolutely are not supposed to call until you are back on call again. I'd never even take a call from Yellow on my ETO. That is grounds for a grievance.Last edited: Jul 30, 2023

I've always looked into old stories about the history of it all. When ya look into the old consolidated freight way back when, that has something to do with how freightliner started to make trucks for them or something to that effect. It's a fascinating story. Then how that chain ended up morphing all these years later to xpo. All the steps in between an such. I know things sure are a lot different from way back when. A lotta fallen companies along the way.Albertaflatbed, HiramKingWilliams and LTL Bull Thank this.

Mr. James was an innovator. The CF units were bare bones. The old Freightliner Cabovers were straight 7 speeds and didn’t even have a fuel gauge. CFCC was a great company to work for. Mr Beam spec’d horizontal exhaust on his power because he didn’t want the trailers getting sooted up from standard vertical exhaust. The trailers were hand lettered and the tractors were 3 colored long into the time other companies were going to solid base colors with decals applied. Knew something was up when we started seeing base white decaled corn binders with vertical exhaust towards the end. They were lease units. They tried innovations like possum belly trailers that looked like Old UPS and fedex drip belly trailers except they were a flat floor trailer with a movable floor section that slid forward to load hand freight in the belly. Slide section back into place and you could drive on it with a forklift like a regular pup.Professor No-Name, blairandgretchen and Old_n_gray Thank this.

But he was drunk and answered the phone.

Well, there's a lesson to be learned there....don't answer the phone when you're drunk.Albertaflatbed, cdavis188 and bzinger Thank this.

Yeah. That's subjective. My state says .08, I blew .04 and DOT says no higher than .02. My workplace sat on the paperwork for a week and it was overdue for me to pee in a cup. They called me in and offered me 4 hours of pay if I just had it done. I was already there at the terminal and did not think much of it.
Here is where it pisses me off to no end. But during the testing the machine failed. It literally just went kaput on the technicians. They had to take the machine apart mid testing. I requested a new machine or a blood test. They denied me both requests. Was I legally "drunk" as DOT defines it?; Yes. 100% probable. Did I get a fair test? That is no.
Even my Substance Abuse Professional sided with me after I explained my situation. I did an online class, submitted my paper certificate that I finished it. Then I went to two classes at a nice church where I had to stand up and say "hey, my name is R/R and in addition to sucking at life, I am also an alcoholic '.
My company fired me for two weeks while I finished the program but I was right back to work like nothing happened. I was cleared to return to duty. I didn't think any more of it since I had zero intention of leaving my company.
I want to make a brief address about something.
I made some really disparaging comments last night. Some were on here and some were to people I am friendly with.
This morning a uniformed officer with the Lexington County Sheriff's Office showed up at my door. They wanted to do a health and wellness check on me because some of my comments were extremely distressing. Somehow one of you managed to figure out who I was and cared enough to send in help.
Thank you for this. I have an idea who it was and would like to thank him. Thank you for caring.
I am in a very dark and scary spot. In terms of finances I should be ok. My mortgage is only $334 a month. What really crushed me is the sudden loss of my job. I was tied to this company for 11 years. It's not just a loss of job and benefits. I feel like I lost a part of my identity.
My dispatcher, supervisor, and my colleagues. All of them gone.
Thank you all for caring.Albertaflatbed, jamespmack, Speed_Drums and 20 others Thank this.
