So traveling down the road driving at night on a poorly lit 4 lane highway I see barely off in the far distance of a vehicle behind me a few miles back a puff of smoke and what feels like I hit a wavy portion of road and the trailer is feeling kind of bouncing I pull over to see if I blew a tire but not instead the dual tires came completely off the spindle for the tire bent DOT bumper broke my license plate holder and bent my mudflap. Called company sent pictures and I was told to drive it slowly 14 miles back with flashers on and if I’m stopped by DOT or police to have them call into the company. I’m refusing to move vehicle and basically night dispatch told me it’s either I drive it back 14 miles or sit on the side of the road. I’m risking the other tandem trailer tires to heat up not to mention there’s no hub oil in the rear axle of the tandem. What would you do in this situation? I’m nowhere near a safe place just stuck

I would chain it up.

That's pretty serious, dude. It's entirely possible, there was no way of knowing or preventing that, a bearing can and will seize, but more than likely you will get the blame for not checking axle hub oil. Quite frankly, you dodged a bullet there, my friend, hopefully the duals ended up in the ditch, and not in some families minivan coming home from church,,,or whatever. Bearings usually fail from metal in the oil, causing a seal failure, and oil all over. Was any service done recently? I've seen axles chained up before, but I think today, a cop will require a wrecker or service truck. Just looks bad, chained up axle, therefore in their eyes, it must be. I wouldn't move either these days, and sadly, I bet the company hangs you for this.

Dont take this as being rude, but..... If you gotta ask.. If you dont know how to handle this safely... if you're afraid/uncomfortable in attempting to move it safely... If you dont have the knowledge or equipment (chains etc)....

I’ve had similar situations. If you can limp forward a short distance to a safer place to get it off the road, do so. But otherwise get those triangles out and flashers on and have them send help. If you feel like it’s an unsafe place but you can’t move, call the police so they can close off the lane for you.

I recovered a trailer from the 2nd rest area on I-80 in Indiana, same thing happened to another driver. The company called a wrecker to chain the axle up and I ran it all the way back to Pittsburgh PA. Granted, that trailer was empty. I would've never done it with a loaded trailer, that'll add way too much stress on the fully supported axle and end up causing far more issues.

had that happen when I was a container yanker.
company said drive on in to the rail head. 120 miles. loaded heavy.
I chuckled and told dispatch ain't gonna happen!
they sent a road repair out to chain up the axle and was again told "bring it on in"
ummm.... nope, there's a closed convenience store about a mile down, I'll drop it there if it can't be fixed today, (which I knew wasn't going to happen with a container), and bobtail back.
