Hello,
I was wondering what y'all think the best emergency spill kits are? This would be for a garbage truck. Nothing too large but able to contain a hydraulic leak if it were to happen near a catch basin, etc. Thanks!
Best emergency spill kit?

A big bag of kitty litter, a shovel to dig up dirt if you run out of kitty litter .... Contain the leak. Then stop the leak with a wedge, a stick or putty. The last thing you want is fluid going into a drain or the soil! You can get absorbent socks at Home Depot for under $100

I agree, but forgot one thing, stop the leak and get the heck out of there. EPA has no sense of humor, like the guy on Ghostbusters. It may not be the most responsible thing to do, but with Haz-Mat cleanup, even a drop can run into the thousands.

I wish I could agree with you but running away from a spill is the wrong thing to do. Depending on what spilled a first responder could be exposed to something that could kill him before he realizes what happened.
-
yeah or have a small containment spill, with your shovel and putty, be strung out over miles.

Come on @201. You hand out some good advice. But this is crap. Be responsible and own your screw ups. Run off and leave a few gallons of hydraulic oil on the ground, and get caught on camera, would be worse than just cleaning it up.

But, but, but, we did it all the time in the 80s,,,relax, BOY you guys are touchy, must be a little tense, I'm talking about at most a fuel filter contents, not the Exxon-Valdez. Besides, I knew of some pretty big spills people did run away from, and quite frankly, if faced with a $50,000 dollar cleanup, or more, I'm not sure what I would do. Of course in a spill I would try and do the right thing, so aim your guns elsewhere. I'm almost 70 and never been behind in jail, so I must have done something right.

Makes good sense, safety wise, but a hydraulic leak was specifically mentioned.
