Welcome to the wonderful world of trucking.

To succeed here, & last any real length of time, you need:
    • The work ethic of a freight train
    • The patience of a grandfather clock
    • An honest appetite for adventure
    • A "gearhead" (or gearhead wannabe) mindset
    • An aversion to office-type environments
    • You REALLY LIKE driving
Bonus points: if you are a military veteran.

More bonus points: if you are a vet who saw combat.

I got into trucking in large part due to:
    • Single
    • Never married
    • No children
    • No family
    • "Gearhead" mindset
    • Clean MVR
    • Clean criminal background
    • Office work sux

    70hours in 8 days.
Burn your 70, go home for 34 hour reset.

    Won’t make as much.

Local here, 8 hour days $31 and some change to start, 75mph trucks and no cameras of any kind.

Most local jobs are 10-12 hours per work day. OTRs guys often forget to add in the commuting time (both ways) and when you come home family may have expectations of you doing other things. Local jobs often barely have time for a 10 hour break into which commuting and before/after work activity must be squeezed, plus you are always in city traffic.

Their business isn't aimed at making driver jobs convenient but profitable for each truck. At the local jobs I've been I was the rare driver seeking to have a 8-10 hour day and almost every other driver wanted 12 plus hours.

Find the job that gives you what you want before you decide about CDL school. Just because you have a school loan it doesn't mean you can find a job that fits what you need. Your school loan has to be repaid whether you get a job or not.
