Interesting topic - there are no snakes in New Zealand where I grew up. Nada. Never seen one till I got here 20 years ago.
I find them fascinating, we have a couple of black snakes at the house, I understand they are non poisonous, and feed on rodents, so I let them be.
Yet the fear/phobia - most all of us have one. I’ll apply napalm in a 6 mile radius like @jamespmack if I see anything with 8 legs. Total over the top, visceral reaction.
It doesn’t matter whether it will harm me or not - it’s all the same. I fully respect others fears, and not something to play with.LameMule, TX2Day, jamespmack and 14 others Thank this. -
Heard some young people talking about “free” stuff. I cautioned them. They couldn’t see what was wrong with accepting free stuff. I asked them if they were in prison, would they accept anything free from another inmate?
“NOOOOOOOOOO!”The_vett, jamespmack, TX2Day and 10 others Thank this. -
10-4 on the 8 legs!!! Slithering things make me jump a little if it’s a surprise sighting, but those multiple legs varmints with needles in their mouth just send me over the top lol. I hate going under a house with just a crawl space…!! -
I had heard that about New Zealand. If I ever make it overseas, that will be the first place I go.
That rattlesnake was in the Ozarks just 100 miles SW of you. I'm sure they're in the MO Ozarks too.
I don't fear the snakes at all, if I see them early. I'll look like I'm really cuttin a rug though if I'm surprised by one. -
The little FedEx delivery guy here awhile back coming off a porch got surprised by a rattler, kicked the darn thing into the next county.
He's from the Philippines, so maybe no big deal to him. -
If it has lots of legs, chemical warfare is required. If that doesn’t work, we bring out the torch.
Seem to have an abundance of black widows around here. -
That’s the problem. The wolf spiders are creepy as F , but eat the black widows.
It’s a delicate balance.
Bayer - Tempo SC Ultra, is what we use here. It’ll knock them stunned at least, better than finding them cuddling up with ya. Thin stream around the house and thresholds. Dries quickly, no harm to pets.
