Yes, it was supposedly designed to withstand an indirect nuclear blast with a radar system that could look " over the horizon ". It may still be the second tallest building in ND, after the capital building.
Cavalier also had several Titan missle silos in the vicinity. We used to joke that Cavalier had more "firepower" than most countries.![]()

Everybody always forgets personal preferences, length of haul, regions most time spent in, etc. One man's trash is another's treasure in trucking has always been true. Having worked for Holland, the attitude of Magnum drivers made me want to stay away. They kind of stick together and you're part of the group.
Holland is more individualistic. I didn't know other drivers and didn't want to. I kept to myself and the longer hauls suited this facet of my personality. But it's been years. For what it's worth.Anonymousproxy, Bud A. and Bumper Thank this. -

Holland is a great company all in all. Especially for those that WANT the true long haul part of trucking.
I’ve only had a few complaints about them, and they really were pretty trivial complaints at that.
I’d definitely go back there if I wanted OTR long haul again, but I’m happy doing LTL and sleeping in my bed every night.Anonymousproxy and cdavis188 Thank this. -
I just started with holland a week & 1/2 ago, so far they been good, and for me it’s already a huge night & day improvement from the toxic, incompetently ran mess that the company down the street(Great Plains) became in the last couple years. I doubt if Great Plains will be around much longer anyways.
TruckDriver87, Bumper, Lonesome and 2 others Thank this. -
GP definitely won’t be around much longer, Mike has run it into the ground. They probably shouldn’t have split off from Holland dispatch.Bumper Thanks this. -
I’m actually starting to wonder if Mike was part of the reason for the split… it really is sad how he ran his father’s company into the ground. A few years ago it was great there, had decent people running safety & maintenance then he decided to kick the good people out(especially anyone who worked good with the drivers). After that the equipment and freight at the place went into the toilet… yet he kept acting as if nothing was going wrong because of his decisions, claiming “it’s the freight market”…. Yeah right. Holland meanwhile is still thriving & growing. My only regret is I didn’t make the switch couple years earlier when the signs of trouble at gpt started cropping up. I guess hindsight is 20/20.

Thinking on it now, Mike is the biggest reason for the downfall of GPT. He has no business sense, lost a LOT of the contracts, tried doing things that he shouldn’t have (flatbed and oversize).
There was a few people here in Mapleton that wanted to apply there, they asked me if they should and I said no. Mike has a reputation for being an ####### and a bit of sexist towards women.
I give them no more than a year and they’ll be done.Anonymousproxy, Bumper and Dennixx Thank this. -
They sure seem to have a lot of trucks sitting here in town doing nothing lately. (GPT).
Anonymousproxy and Bumper Thank this.
