As far as the loads slowing down in the summer you have to consider we carry temperature sensitive products and a hot tank can only keep temperature for so long on the longer trips. The trailers are basically a thermos on wheels.
Loads will be rejected if to hot.

 

I wonder what they do to meet the demand. Put it in totes and load it on a reefer?

 

If I had to take a guess, I'd go with cost and/or weight.

 

Those sysco trucks were limited to 63 or 65 so low top end wasn't an issue for them

 

Probably switch to frozen concentrate to juice which will stay at low temperature for much longer.

I have delivered regular single strength non-frozen juice in the summer and it kept temperature for 10 days... Just barely. Customer almost rejected it.

 

Another reason I was told why loads slow down in the summer is not so much to do with temperature but one of our main juice customers supplies schools and when the kids are off school on summer vacation then the schools don't buy juice and we don't need to deliver as much.

 

The Freightliner DT12 is not a bad transmission, but IMHO, it can't hold a candle to the Volvo/Mack transmission.

 

I think food grade tanker has been slow all year.

 

Speaking of Freightliner DT12... I was in Winter Haven yesterday and we had some more Freightliners come in recently. I inquired about getting one and they might let me have one soon. They're currently waiting on plates for them I think. I also noticed we have some Kenworths there too.
