Back in the 80s I ran heavy wrecker in the winter/spring when contstruction was slow. I had a call to pick a driver up in Wells and go south on 93 to set his truck up and tow it in.
I picked up the driver and we headed to his truck. This was in the spring and snow had recently disappeared, but the gravel on the shoulder looked dry. The driver said that he just pulled over to take a leak, on a shoulder that looked just like where the OP ran over the delineater stake. As he was walking to the passenger side the right side of the tractor and trailer started settling and didn't stop until it was on it's side.
So, don't trust a dry gravel surface in Northern Nevada in the spring time!

A couple of years ago my engine ran away after the turbo blew. It wound up fast RPM's quick and ran for several minutes (seemed like an eternity at the time - was probably 3-5 minutes) before all the oil was blown out or combusted then it shut itself down. I assume the ECM shut it down. When I pulled the drain plug at home maybe a half gallon poured out. Cleaned it all up, put a new turbo on and it ran like a champ until about 2,000 miles later when a connecting rod bearing seized.
Moral of the story here (other than find a way to immediately stop air intake on a runaway engine like that) is to roll in new bearings after such an affair. And a thorough inspection of the valve train maybe replace some of that too. Before the rod bearing seized i did notice when idling my mirrors shook and they never did that before. That was a clue I stupidly chose to ignore and that engine would still be running today with that new turbo if I had taken care of those other issues. I don't believe your engine is toast. Good luck!Last edited: Aug 10, 2024

What a cluster ##. Looks like he was pulling over to take a break out in the middle of nowhere and did not see that pole coming out of the ground. Seen a few of these before and they are hard to spot when not looking real close. That is why the oil is only a few feet long from draining. Must had been a pretty large hole. Bet something got sucked up like someone else had stated and that caused it to lock up. Might get lucky and not have to rebuild the whole #### thing. Keep us posted when you find out. Hate seeing stupid stuff like this break a man but it happens all the time.

if something was sucked up - most likely something was - there is this thing called an oil filter which would have stopped it because of the low oil pressure and low flow rate.
I don't buy that this engine is frozen, I do think that there is a lot more to the story that isn't being disclosed.
The amount of oil that dropped is irrelevant, but it could be an indication of the poor workmanship of any repair or an inframe.AFC, Sons Hero, Siinman and 1 other person Thank this. -
i got lucky a month ago, had oil change at speedco, told them no luber finer filter.
Truck don’t line them. After waiting there an hour, i walked next door and got a sandwich, came back and ate in customers area., got done drove 600 miles, heard a pop, thought it was turbo, sounded like a .22, no smoke, i stopped 4 miles up road at a rest area, shut down inspected, they’d put a luberfiner filter on it and blowed a hole in the side of it.
Lost 7 gallons, service call plus oil and filter was $850.
oil change was $490, at speedco.
We did real well.Rideandrepair, Sons Hero, Siinman and 2 others Thank this. -
Wonder if the truck is running?

waiting on callback from “new” regional manager.
You know that’ll happen.Feedman, Siinman and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
You see the metal pole in the ground and you see the oil leaking all the way to the front of my truck. 75 ft. Please see pictures below.
