My truck doesn’t have an obvious driver facing camera, but it does have an Android tablet for my ELD, and that tablet does have a camera that could conceivably be used as a driver cam. I put my cap over it whenever I want to be sure if my privacy. But it’s not something that I worry about too much, my company isn’t intrusive, they just let me do my job.

But I think a more accurate way of looking at the privacy issue is to consider the sleeper cab as a company dorm, like you’d live in onsite at a job site, or a barracks, or onboard a ship. There’s an expectation of privacy, but it’s not the same as a home or apartment.

 

It’s most likely the rocking of the truck was enough to have the camera record that 12 seconds and sent it in, then the camera service vendor who received the video analyzed it and sent it in.

tbh if I owed a fleet of trucks I’d put cameras in too… only difference is I’d have a policy like my company has where the drivers camera stays covered unless they get violations or complaints of erratic or reckless driving. With the #### quality of drivers these days I can’t completely blame companies for protecting themselves from driver stupidity and lawsuit happy lawyers.

 

You sign a piece of paper at orientation that says nobody on the truck but you. There is a passenger policy and that person is the only one allowed. It's that simple. Do what u want but if you get caught you cant say you didn't know. Passenger policy will end that lawsuit real quick.

 

If you are dumb enough to leave curtains open and not cover the camera up then You get what ya get.

Yes exactly. To sleep. Then rinse and repeat in the morning lol. The bed is to make sure you won't be late for work lol. What's the alternative, for a company to buy drivers a motel room every night at 100 bucks a night? This conversation has really tickled me. Lol.

We all have gotten laid in the truck I'm sure. All I'm saying is dude screwed himself. If you're going to play around in a work vehicle, just be smart. Don't get caught. As someone alluded to earlier, don't get mad about a driver facing camera, just cover it up. If you're going to bend/break rules, calculate. Now that...sir.....is what you call....pretty simple.

 

It’s amazing how a lot of drivers can’t figure that out.

like with my company and my previous one require 3 weeks out being long haul otr, it’s explained on the application and at orientation, but then every once in a while I run into a driver who’s all po’d because they thought they would go home every one or 2 weeks….same with other rules or laws… it’s like what part of a simple rule or instruction can’t they get through their heads?
