Loves truck stops…. Bad company need to go out of business

Since it seems 90% of OTR truckers are solar powered, that is, running during the day and shutting down in the evening, maybe you could change your schedule and drive through the night instead. I'm willing to bet there would be little wait time for showers(and fuel) in the wee hours. Another suggestion is, to shower in the middle of the day when all of other the drivers are on the road. You have to take a 30 minute break anyway, why not shower during that time?

 

I rarely have a wait at Love’s unless I shower between 17:00-20:00. Usually a longer wait for fuel at Love’s than other chains though, but it’s alright. I usually try and get my shower in on my 30 whenever I take it and then that frees me up that evening to park at a rest area, mom and pop, or wherever. Ends up being a 40 minute or so break, but that 10 minutes lost is usually made up with a little more freedom to run out my hours. Rarely a wait mid day at 90% of locations. Nice to feel refreshed mid day as well and know my 10 hour break is all ‘me time’.

I did some research, and found that the net profit per gallon is around 3-7 cents. Percentage wise Loves generates about a 2% net profit on every gallon.

Nationwide, they sell hundreds of millions of gallons per year. The exact gallon amount Loves sells per year is not publicly disclosed.

Travel Centers of America has disclosed that they sell around 500 million gallons of fuel per year.

There are 300 Travel Centers of America in the U.S.

There are 640 Loves Travel Centers in the U.S.

 

From the looks of a lot of drivers, I’d say the roller grill of death is quite popular.

 

The big companies purchase fuel on a cost plus program. The truck stop gets their cost plus a 3 to 5 cent profit and that is all. The profit in fuel is off the retail fuel purchasers that pay full price. The volume of a large truck stop on fuel gets them a better discount from the wholesale supplier.

 

It’s called free market capitalism, don’t like it get fuel somewhere else. I bet you are 25-33 years old.
