I made an executive decision yesterday. I’ve decided to start parking my truck in Council Bluffs for hometime and i will have one of my cars up there as well. Once we were done in Kansas City yesterday, i had my roommate follow me up to the yard and then we piled into the car and drove home. About to leave here in a couple hours to drive back to the yard. It’s a tad over 3.5 hours by car from the terminal to my doorstep since it’s a straight shot down 80 and 81. Although since i’m OTR i’ll only have to make that drive once a month
This time I’ll be taking my truck home and leaving my car at the yard but for most future hometimes i’ll be leaving my truck at the yard to hop in my car and drive home

I would imagine the pros being, less goofy freight, and less of an issue getting in and out of hometime due to goofy freight.
If I was 13.5hrs away I would do the same thing. I always pull a van home, which is great having the flexibility. But removing my tarps and chains everytime I go home just to make a trip back to reload them takes up time and burns extra fuel. I know all of that stuff has weight to it, and I never have pulled the same load twice out of hometime.Knucklehead Thanks this. -
The MAIN reason I stay out as long as I do is that going home usually involves dealing with Dallas, either getting home or leaving home. -
I must have gotten spoiled with this hydraulic steering system thing this truck has. Got switched into it a few wks ago when my truck hit 501k. Last wknd my friend picked me up in my pickup to go get 1 of the batteries replaced. While the guy was trying to put the battery in he let the cables touch causing bunch of sparks. After we get the battery replaced i drove it to go get fuel and thought there was no power steering. He drove it and said it was normal and i had gotten used to this steering in the freightliner.

i felt kind of out of place parking my car in the lot since it’s the only one here with Kansas plates while everything else is either from NE or IA. Then i saw a car with SC plates and didn’t feel too bad anymore
Knucklehead, Goody3635 and Cherokee65 Thank this. -
that would be a pro but even so, I live close enough to a lot of our major customers that it’s not really too big of a deal. I mainly did it because i’m through the area regularly and there’s been plenty of times where i needed a reset but ended up sitting in my truck doing nothing for 34 hours, or if i need to do some grocery shopping i can hop in my own car instead of tying up the one company vehicle CB hasKnucklehead and MidWest_MacDaddy Thank this.

Other than having your truck there for service when you take off why did you decide to do that if they let you take the truck home? I’d hate to drive that far for home time in my personal car.
MidWest_MacDaddy, Speedy356 and motocross25 Thank this. -
You can’t stop at a Walmart somewhere and restock under a load?

Graphic Packaging in Clarksville, Tennessee. I went Off Duty after I checked in. They put me in a door after about an hour. They just moved me to a different door since the door they first put me apparently broke. Still probably a couple hours from being loaded.
Knucklehead Thanks this.
