The short version: Joe McCarthy was right, although he was sometimes incorrect when mentioning numbers. He says, "hundreds in the Pentagon", it was actually something like 58 documented and 20-50 likely, with an additional 10-15 probable, IIRC.
There are several books on the topic of Soviet infiltration of magazines and publishing in which some of the Hollywood 10 Blacklist, Witness by Whitaker Chambers explains the network nature of the CP in the US, but that book is about one or 2 cells in the DC, Baltimore, NYC area in the 1940s+. Later investigations and documentation confirmed Chambers' account while all the accused denied and the media ran a campaign to thoroughly discredit Chambers for 50 years. That case is what brought Richard Nixon to prominence before he was Ike's VP.
Other sources on the network and the CP are ANYTHING written by Allen Weinstein, John Earl Haynes,
Chambers wrote for National Review magazine later after the various trials (he won) so it was explained extensively back int the day and over next 30 years.
DiscoverTheNetworks.org and David Horowitz's Freedom Center covers the interlocking Non-Governmental Organizations in contemporary politics here and abroad. It's a vast topic over 7 decades, continuing to the present.

Probably something the John Birch Society wrote up some 60+ years ago, which hasn't been even remotely relevant for half a century. It's funny that the British and the French never banned communist parties in their countries, but mostly viewed them as amusing fringe parties, not to really be taken seriously (although they DID infiltrate them and keep a close eye on them..).
FWIW, "communism" ain't what it used to be; the Russians are no longer communist, all of eastern Europe abandoned it, China and Vietnam are still 'officially' communist, but also capitalist, so who knows WHAT to call them, and even North Korea no longer considers themselves communist. Maybe Cuba still is? I don't know. Worrying about a failed ideology from a century prior is a non-sequitur to this discussion. Not sure how this train went down THAT track to derail.....tarmadilo Thanks this. -
I think this entire thread belongs in the Political section.

The documented info on the CP operations in the US are not just John Birch sources. They are documented in FBI, CIA, independent reporters formerly with major media outlets of the 1940-90s, or scholars of the field on faculty at major universities, some Ivy League. Most important, quite a bit of the people "only accused by kooks" at the time have been confirmed to be agents, operatives, cooperating, or on USSR/CP payroll by what is called The Mitrokhin Archive. For a period in the 1930-1980s an employee in the Soviet/Russian archives squirreled away documents from the KGB's archives which confirmed many of the "only accused" as actual culprits. The Mitrokhin Archive was smuggled out to Western intelligence before the USSR collapsed. When the USSR collapsed Western scholars and reporters briefly got access to the KGB archives. The KGB closed access a short time later.
While people try to cover-up history, it has a knack of peeking out from under all of the blankets and denials people with reasons to keep the truth a secret have would like to claim proves these are just "crazy conspiracy theories" and just the "product of a fevered runaway imagination." Both of those quoted phrases were stock phrases used during the period to dismiss investigations into the topic and discredit those bringing forth evidence of the Communist operation in the US and the West. For some reason the ideas of communism are not repulsive and as repugnant to the "kool kids" as those of the German Nazis, despite the body count record of death and destruction being 6-12 times that of the Nazis. It's shameful, not harmless youthful romanticism and idealism. I'm done with the thread.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
I disagree..
Healthy discussion that hasn't derailed. -
It does belong in the Political topic was created in recent times during a new administration after a new president was voted in everything about this topic is political. And people can't say much so people are having to dance around the issue that is this whole topic is about someone potshotting at the current administration how someone doesn't like them. In no way have I or my relatives felt like we would be deported simply because we had darker skin. The current administration is doing what our government should have done a long time ago enforcing laws that are already on the books instead of choosing which ones to enforce and bankrupting America and its citizens. I am whole heartly against the majority of the entire congress and they all need be voted out red and blue and made to only serve 2 terms at most.KDHCryo Thanks this.

Maybe just your post..
Was about passports near the border.
I really don't see it being political if I'm picked up by police because I resemble the description of a criminal by a witness.
If you feel this belongs in the politic forum then I suggest you ask one of the moderators to do it. -

Those are checkpoints never once asked where my passport they ask easy questions and you go on your way. The topic again created after I can only assume someone sour the fact the new president isn't their pick. Deleted
But back on topic lets say that border agents aren't only on the Mexico border they are in the north and the hunting dogs I call them are ICE are needed to find people who come in illegally. The previous administration had them flown in then handed money and instead of victims for a natural disaster who got 750$ and I am sour that relatives that's all FEMA could help them since they were mostly broke due to helping illegals. I have zero sympathy for someone coming illegally instead of the right way. I think they need to draft these illegals in the sense if they want to be legalized as a citizen and serve two years it should be granted to them if they leave honorably also of course pay them but it would also that would generate taxes. We need good soldiers and more so that many were removed because they refused to get shots for covid which in itself is another issue. I call the greatest control the government ever put on the American people and everyone pretty much said yes sir and good number of people had side effects from those shots.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 4, 2025
