So about 10 years ago we bought a ‘98 379 with a 3406e 6ts with no maintenance history. I’ve put about 1.1mil on it since then.
We’ve never opened up the engine with the exception of some camshaft work a few years ago. The head is not the original since it was missing the yellow paint when we bought it.
I send in oil samples every 20k miles when I change the oil and so far they’re coming back normal.
My question; do I keep trucking until I notice something off/starts giving troubles or is it almost time for an overhaul with the current (confirmed) miles?
When to overhaul

It’s almost time, but until it starts using a gallon+ a day keep on trucking, unless you have a good year and are looking to spend a little something at the end to knock uncles Sam’s take down

One of my N14's has been consuming a gallon of oil per week for the last 3 years. I say keep driving until it starts giving you problems

I dont know much about that motor, but unless there is some hard actual known things you need to replace at a certain time etc, I aint stuffing around with a good motor, keep oil samples going and just keep trucking

I’d leave it be till it gave problems, I have 2 in the shop right now that we’re took some place for an ounce of prevention……..it’s gonna take 10 lbs of cure to get em back right
Siinman Thanks this. -
Well that eases my mind! Thanks for all the input
