That's kind of a tweaner weight - light for a D9 but a touch heavy for a fully dressed D8T/R, a bit more than a 980 but less than a 988, too much for a 336 but not enough for a 345 (maybe a newer 340?), I'm going to have to go with a track crusher of some sort.

The time factor is the biggest thing. You can't let a back haul screw up your money load.cke, singlescrewshaker, sawmill and 9 others Thank this.

My experience with grabbing one of those cheap skips is they always ended up being a pain in one way or the other. Like I said, I'll bounce >a thousand miles if I have to. I'd rather do that and grab something profitable without burning days "adding revenue", but then again, I'm not OTR even if I find myself on the wrong coast. Home is always my destination, even if I'm headed away from it.cke, singlescrewshaker, Gatordude and 12 others Thank this.

I've headed home empty a lot. More due to the availability of high paying loads here vs the market where I was. Those high paying loads aren't here anymore either.
Now the load mentioned to OKC? I wouldn't have done, cause most likely I wouldn't have found a good load (for me) in OKC.
It's subjective. Throw all the feel good stuff about not running cheap out, it's business. No matter what, somebody will take the cheap load because it makes sense for them. Maybe not every day, but at the right time, yes.
Sometimes it makes sense for me. Time of week, plans afterwards, etc. Since those high paying loads out of here are rare, I try to stay loaded all the time.
And I have noted the difference in gross revenue vs profit.
I always gross more when I go for the high paying loads, but profit % goes way down. Spinnin my wheels for free doesn't make sense. But, with my lack of patience it still happens often.cke, singlescrewshaker, Gatordude and 12 others Thank this. -
I think we're a similar mindset in a lot of aspects (lack of patience, prior commitments, etc), so even without the actual numbers, I can take that at face value - that in your experience, profit margin is consistently higher by prioritizing staying loaded over chasing the money. It's just that it's so bad lately, it's really hard to keep churning away.cke, singlescrewshaker, Gatordude and 8 others Thank this.

I would be thinking very seriously about telling them, hang on a sec while I get my tractor unhooked and the hell out of there way before they tear up the whole left side of your tractor
cke, singlescrewshaker, broke down plumber and 7 others Thank this. -
Yeah, I get that. As long as a guy makes it work in a way he's happy with, no reason for anybody to judge. Though it doesn't mean any of us would do it that way.
One thing I always have to keep in mind is guys running ELD's. They run out of hours, and I still got ink in the pen. They have a few more metrics in the process that I'm not as concerned with.
Just a different game of chess.cke, singlescrewshaker, Gatordude and 12 others Thank this. -
It's a circular argument, that changes to an oval, or an egg shape over time.
We all need to put bread on the table, that's a constant. What we'll do for that, is up to us.
There have been many success stories on this forum over time, and 'success' is subjective to each of us.
I have noticed over the past three years, the lack of threads either complaining about the market, or boasting about it.
Just wrote a bunch of stuff, then deleted it. I'll re-focus later.cke, singlescrewshaker, High Stepper and 15 others Thank this.
