I agree the recent changes in the last couple years have been nice. When they changed the split break to stop the 14 hour clock it solved alot of problems for me... I used to run into the 14 clock almost everyday before they changed it

A lot of drivers have essentially been told that they will be fired and potentially drug out back behind the scale house and beat if they go even 1 second over. ELDs are annoying at times but 99% of the time I love it because it cut way down on the amount of paperwork I have to do and I ####in hate paperwork.
I remember back when we were forced to finally install them in the trucks. I had been running one for a year or so ahead of time to make sure I knew what the problems were and how to fix it for the other drivers. For a while there were even still ways to cheat the ELD.
Used to always get the guys who were afraid it would shut down the motor in the middle of the highway if they hit 11:00:01 hours. It had to be true, they heard it at the counter in the Petro. Happened to a guy's brother's cousin's best friend. No way a truck driver would sit there and spin a tall tale.
I still run over every now and then. Usually it's because I made it into the yard with 30s left on the clock and it won't let me change it until it's too late. I've also done the PC from the state line to home a few times because I'll be ###### if I'm parking 30 minutes from home empty when I'm not working for the next few days.
Ive been through plenty if inspections with 2 minutes pre and post trips and a little over hours driving and nobody cares. If you don't cause a wreck and don't get stopped when it happens the chances of getting a ticket are near 0. There's always the chance a driver runs their mouth about something stupid on a traffic stop and talks themself into a ticket or OOS though.
The cops and auditors mostly realize that we are still just people and sometimes you are going to be over by a few minutes. As long as you don't make a habit of driving significantly over hours it probably won't ever matter.singlescrewshaker, cke, CAXPT and 17 others Thank this. -

Was at the TA in Baytown TX, and heard a guy at a lunch counter tell everyone that he bootlegged a Manitowoc crane down the road on a flatbed at night. 24ft wide, probably 100 ft tall, a million pounds or better…on a flatbed. You and I both know better. That’s like someone saying they caught a meteor burning through the atmosphere with a baseball glove. I would see this guy every day at the TA. He wasn’t a driver. He had the hots for one of the waitresses and would come in and sit at the lunch counter to see if he could wear her down.
I realized that half of the lunch counter lies are from people who aren’t drivers spinning tall tales to drivers. Some people lie about being navy seals and CIA operatives. Apparently, some people lie about being truck drivers too.Friend, singlescrewshaker, cke and 13 others Thank this. -

I don't doubt it. A lot of difference with attachments, track guides, under track-frame plates, and dirt built up inside the track frames. Plus the one we rented was a D with long track frame as I recall. Yeah, I was gonna say a machine can vary 10,000 pounds based on spec options. Then you add a thumb, quick connect and a big bucket that’s 10,000 right there. And yes I have hauled some 336’s that were pushing 90k if not a little more.singlescrewshaker, cke, IH Truck Guy and 13 others Thank this.
