Good Morning - Last week our load got rejected at the Costco. It was baby spinach packed in plastic bags. Now the broker is asking if we pulp the product while loading. I just want to know Can we pulp the product like bagged spinach?

Infrared spot thermometer aimed at the bagged product will give a good reading. Or a probe thermometer stuck in between the bags will work. No need to actually pierce the bags. You can access them thru the hand hold slot in the sides of the boxes.

We are ready to file a claim. The height of the loaded product was too high, leaving a 3 to 4-inch gap from the roof. We're concerned the insurance might reject the claim due to improper loading. Although the reefer unit was functioning properly, the internal temperatures remained high

Do you have satellite tracking for the Reefer? If so, download a temperature chart for that time period. Otherwise, take it to a dealer to download from the microprocessor. If it never went out of temperature range, then maybe the insurance company will try to put the blame back on the shipper. If nothing else, at least the insurance company will know ithe driver is to blame only to extent that he allowed ot to be loaded on the trailer warm.

We are getting the reefer download report now and I will update post after reviewing it. Just out of curiosty, if the reefer temp were out of range, do you think insurance will accept the claim and not deny it?

What insurance company do you have and what did they do with the load?

I've never had a claim. Nor have I hardly heard anything about the subject. My guess would be that the insurance company would pay the claim. I imagine the shipper will argue that they've loaded warm product, and that a reefer should cool it. It gets complicated for the insurance Co to determine fault: what temp was the product when loaded? How much time between pickup and delivery? How many btu does the unit have? They might just pay it and raise your premiums without a fight.

I just checked the reefer download report. The reefer ran 100% fine during the trip. The temp was 34F Cont. We picked the product on FRIDAY EVENING in CA and the delivery was on WEDNESDAY MORNING in NJ. Now the broker is keep asking about if we pulped the product and we didn't pulp the product since it was baby spinach.
