Some very good information given here. No one looks forward to the DOT physical but its really for your own good. I have been seeing my medical examiner for a number of years on she is in the registry for approved physicians. The days when you didn't have to take any clothes off and the five minute exam are long gone. I had to renew my card three weeks ago and since the doctor had a light patient load she spent a little more time with me. As always the exam was more than required. For example she checked the blood pressure in my left ankle and compared it to the pressure in my left arm. Its a index thats used for vascular flow in the body. Mine was fine. I have a good rapport with this doctor and I know she would be very candid with me if anything was amiss. Be the best driver you can be. Stay healthy and be safe. Good luck to all.

Make certain the medical examiner is certified to perform the DOT physical. You can fine a list of these physicians in the state you reside in. My last DOT complete physical, including drug test, cost me $125. Good luck.

If she is trying to do ABI Properly she needs to do them in all 4, only doing it on one side doesn’t give you an accurate calculation

If I walked into a DOT physical and they wanted to hook #### up to my ankle I would walk right the hell out.

You can’t just stroll into any doctor’s office for a DOT physical—nope, only Medical Examiners on the national registry have the golden key to the FMCSA portal and CDLIS. Your state isn’t going to let you keep your CDL without slapping on that intrastate restriction unless your physical is logged in the CDLIS. And yes, some states are apparently still stuck in the fax machine era. If your state can’t match your physical with the CDLIS, they’ll send you a lovely little warning letter to sort it out.

Now, as for Medical Examiners, there are definitely some you might want to avoid—though I’m not naming names. I’ll leave it to others to share their tales of terror!

I found a chiropractor who does them and he was awesome. Super fast, cheap, and convenient.

A DOT physical does not include a drug test. If your company wanted you to do a drug test, they should be the ones paying for it.
