    Sometimes when someone asks me how you doing today, I'll answer if I was any better I'd be twins and not even my mother would want that. And it's the truth, one of me was enough she used to say

    Now adjust for inflation.

    But Dad always claimed you should keep 300 bucks in your left boot. That way you could always bail yourself out without having to call anyone.

    Now I never got a clear explanation about the left. But he was admit about "Your left boot".

    @tramm01 also -

    I had my first gout attack about 15 years ago. As said - the pain is through the roof, so over the years I've learned up on it, here's what I found.

    All the medical knowledge on it is sketchy, one article I found stated that it is still only loosely understood by health professionals. The list of foods that you are supposed to avoid goes on and on, including tomatoes and mushrooms - all kinds of stuff. I've NEVER found a correlation from eating/drinking anything to having a flare up.

    Statistics point to it being more common in women than men, in a certain age range - and that about half of the people that get it will never have it again, the other half it is recurring. Almost always in the base of the big toe - but can show up in knees/elbows too. Mine just recently decided to shift to my RIGHT foot for the last attack, and probably unrelated as I said, but after about a week of trying a turmeric supplement. So I stopped that.

    Very often it'll wake you up about 3am, if it's intense, or you'll at least feel it in the morning. I keep stock of 3 medicines at all times. And carry them in the truck.

    Colchicine. typically .6mg tablets. Very important - take 3 immediately, then 1-2 every 3 hours or so, then back it off to 2 tablets twice a day the next day, until the pain and swelling subsides. There's an upper daily limit of Colchicine that you can take, try not to push it too far.

    Indomethacin. This is basically a NSAID like Aleve, and Aleve is OK in a pinch. Better is NAPROXEN 500mg. All are Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs.

    Both the above drugs are old medicines, and cheap. So long as some a-hole Pharma company doesn't buy the patent, change a molecule and jack the price up under another name, like they have been known to do.

    Tart Black Cherry Juice. Straight juice - not 'cherry drink'. And start drinking as much water as you can to start flushing it out.

    Very important to hit it hard and fast with the colchicine, and all the above mentioned drugs will tear your guts up a bit, so take with some food. I just get my doctor to prescribe all the above and keep stock on hand - all are pretty specific and not abused drugs, so your doc shouldn't have an issue.

    I can usually get an attack under control in 1-2 days, because it's pretty debilitating.

    There's a once a day low dose that you can take, I forget the name - (Allopurinol?) if it's an ongoing thing, but I hate taking meds so I've yet to ask about it - That's all I know, don't take any of that as medical advice, run it past your doctor - it's just what I've found to work for me.

    But is is hell on your sleep to be "the dependable man" to "several" good ole boys. One more benefit of being older and not driving.

    Ha.. He had experience with it being there when needed. Older heads like to keep things in the order we knew they had worked before.

    If he leaves that unit sitting out when it’s finished, he’ll have little rubber ducks sitting all over it!

    What about the rest of the cancer that is eating it alive? Haven’t seen anything like it first hand. How long to vehicles last around there? My new truck is an 06 with one scratch and not a spot of rust.
