Just the FAQs on NY HUT
Where should I apply the decal?
The Highway Use Tax Law requires a HUT or AFC decal to be affixed to each motor vehicle.
A decal is not transferable and is valid until it expires or is revoked, suspended, or surrendered.
You must securely and conspicuously affix the decal as follows:
- Truck, tractor, or other self-propelled vehicle: On the body, which includes the bumper of the vehicle, as near as possible to the front registration (license) plate.
- Trailer used to transport automotive fuel: On the body, which includes the bumper of the vehicle, as near as possible to the rear registration (license) plate.

Supposed to be front near the plate/grill, I have mine up on the windshield though because I don’t want stickers on my paint

Too funny, I did the exact same thing.
Body shop replaced my bumper after hitting a mule deer and I tossed the replacement sticker.
Decided I was done with NY and dealing with their bs website. Haven’t been back since.Razororange and Big Road Skateboard Thank this. -
I keep mine in the book in the truck. Been to NY many times and nobody has said anything yet. Same with the CA clean idle stickers.
Got in trouble my first week with the new truck because I hadn't put on my IFTA stickers yet. Was waiting for a set of plates to bolt under the steps to put them on since I didn't want them on the paint.
I hate any mismatched color stickers on the truck especially on the paint. Confused the hell out of a Michigan trooper when I refused his sticker after a clean Level 1.Concorde, mitmaks and Big Road Skateboard Thank this. -
I went once. I don't remember the roads, but went up the north side, then came back through some mountains somewhere north of NYC. I had delivered in MA.
Was really enjoying the road. Not much traffic, nice day, none of it had been what I expected of New York.
Then I rolled around a corner, and there was a sign for truck inspections at the rest area.
Ho lee ##. I had log sheets scattered across the dash. I grabbed them all, stuffed them in my pants, threw the log book out the window.
Pulled in and knew for sure they were gonna haul me to jail and my Jimmy to the scrap yard. There were three tow trucks there picking up trucks.
Two guys were doing inspections, and the third guy waved me through.
Yeah, not goin backTrucker61016, Concorde and Razororange Thank this. -
They don’t care about trucks that enter the weigh station unless you have something that really sticks out (like no HUT sticker) they just want to chase the guys down that blow by themBig Road Skateboard and Concorde Thank this.
